I tried compatibility mode, run as admin, drag and drop, manually enter the file path, different folders, etc etc.

I seem to remember on Windows 7 it just... worked. Google is giving me no help. Any of you guys know if there's some known problem and/or solution thereto?

I'm sorry I don't, but you highlighted my reason for keeping with '7' everything just works, and as long as it is still being supported I don't see any reason to change.

should be an UAC/admin privileges issue that can happen when acting in system folders.. or you tried to extract .dlls before registering waves

-try to copy waveshells to same location as shell2vst (outside of/not into C:\Program Files (x86)\Waves\WaveShells V9 or wherever you installed it) this must happen after license is generated...
-after that drag&drop waveshells over shell2vst
    - now "Waves" folder with extracted .dll will be created in same location and you can take those over to your plugin dir

Dude! I didn't even know you had an account here. Great running into you.

I did all that unfortunately. I figured UAC was probably the culprit as well. My Waves plugs are licensed, so no problems there. Even tried dragging them onto desktop. Same thing always happens, it just closes out without creating any files.

At any rate, what I'm finding is when I drag the waveshell straight onto the application file, it tells me it's not a valid vst. When I copy the path or drop the waveshell onto an opened shell2vst window, it just closes as soon as I hit enter. I just realized that it closes when I hit enter no matter what. It doesn't even have to have a waveshell path in there. So it just doesn't seem to want to run, compatibility mode or not.

Now that I think of it... when I did this last time on Windows 7 it was an R2R patched waveshell as opposed to a legit one. I wonder if there's any possibility that that is making a difference

I got Ricky Bobby syndrome, man. I want to go fast. I had just built a new PC and the speed difference was noticeable between fresh 7/10 installs. I disabled updates and I keep it offline anwyay, so I wasn't too bothered about privacy. But the UAC on Windows 10 is still a bit of a pain in my ass.

    I understand. ish lol

Question for you. You're keeping off of the net so why not switch off the UAC too?

Open the Control Panel (icons view) and select User Accounts.
Click on the Change User Account Control settings link.
If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to continue.
In the User Account Control settings, move the slider to the bottom (Never Notify).

    In case you was wondering.

Already done that, my man. Sadly Windows 10 thinks there's a difference between "never notify" and "never stop me from doing things"

Damn. No wonder windows 10 is so fast, it does what it wants in the hope you press the right keys!

Just a thought, but have you turned off several of the redundant 'services' (as you're not using the net)

I haven't done that in a while but I use to use the Black Viper site back in the XP days:-

Yeah I've done a bunch of that. Some of the network services are still active though. Just enough to get online so I can authorize plugs through Ilok Manager and/or download updates when needed

...it's ok here. But I also had to find out how! And it worked with the help of audiosex - somewhere is a very nice guide about how to do it, but *d'oh* I don't remember where and I'm not on my music PC where I have saved that information...will come back to check if it's solved or not.. sorry! (btw: I also had problems to do this in Win7 and Win8.1 ;-)

Sadly, no luck from the earlier threads, but what I realized is it works fine with the 32 bit if I drag them onto the shell2vst file. When I drag the 64 bit it tells me it's not a valid VST :dunno:

I'm beginning to think that for some reason it thinks it's not activated. Pain in the ass... I have to go to work now but maybe when I get back I'll try patching it with R2R's keygen.

@Cav Emp: You're welcome, I got so many help here - so I try to help back as much as I can.
All I can say for now: Maybe try again and be absolutely shure you do all the steps correct! Saying that, because it didn't work right away for me.. On the 1st run (and 2nd) I missed some points/didn't do it correctly.
Will come back later to check if it's meanwhile solved - once again: good luck!

Agreed, man. I'm not nearly as friendly or helpful in real life as I am on here. This is a good community and the people here deserve whatever I can do to help... which is often not much when it comes to computers. But I'm something of an Ableton whiz so I try and lend my knowledge there wherever I can.

SORRY FOR CAPS! YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE FOLDER WHERE YOU DOWNLOADED SHELL2VST (X86 OR X64-WHICHEVER YOU HAVE) AND RIGHT CLICK IT AND GO DOWN TO PROPERTIES. ONCE IN THERE, IN EITHER THE GENERAL AND/OR COMPATIBILITY TABS- SELECT ADVANCED. ONCE IN ADVANCED, CHECK THE RUN IN ADMIN BOX, HIT APPLY,THEN OK. THE APP SHOULD HAVE THE WINDOWS SHIELD ON IT NOW. DRAG THE WAVESHELL ON IT AND-PRESTO! VERIFIED WIN 10 X64-IT TOOK ME 2 HOURS TO FIGURE IT OUT!!! ALSO, THE FILES CANT BE MOVED, FOR EXAMPLE-I WANTED TO EXTRACT THE WAVESHELL FOR 64 BIT WAVES. I WENT INTO PROGRAM FILES-VSTPLUGINS-WAVES FOLDER(WHERE MY X64 WAVESHELLS WERE INSTALLED BY DEFAULT. I DRAGGED THE WAVESHELLS FROM THERE DIRECTLY ONTO THE SHELL2VST. IN THAT SAME WAVES FOLDER SHELL2VST AUTOMATICALLY WILL CREATE ANOTHER FOLDER WILL THE DLLS IN IT. WHEN DONE-LEAVE IT ALONE. IF YOU MOVE ANYTHING OR DELETE THE WAVESHELLS(SOME PEOPLE SAY TO DELETE THEM)-IT WILL BREAK. THAT IS THE DEFAULT FOLDER SO YOU SHOULDNT BE MOVING ANYTHING ANYWAYS! HOPE THIS HELPS.

    Hello,
I tried shell2vst64 file with latest r2r version. It's not working anymore. Any ideas why? The last time it's worked it was frm 2016 waves version without any issues.
