I purchased a new laptop and seriously considering switching to Linux Ubuntu. First concern is, how will I be able to run Windows programs? I heard about Wine and some accompanied extension that I can&#039;t remember the name of, which enables Windows apps that use C++ runtimes and .Net framework.<br />

Is this feasible? Of course, I&#039;m an advance Windows user so switching to Linux will be a huge learning curve. Compromising on my Windows programs is deal breaker. If I can&#039;t get all my daily...<br />

there appears to be a problem where popup menus in plugins don&#039;t work with R2R plugins running under wine with yabridge (a tool to make running windows plugins work seemlessly with your daw). Everything else works...<br />

My biggest challenge so far has been understanding Linux&#039;s low level systems - I&#039;ve reached for a USB drive to rescue my system a couple of times. You won&#039;t run into the same issues unless you’re chasing performance gains and poking at the kernel and the bootloader like I did. The Nvidia driver is a tad annoying at driver updates, but overall works just fine. Since the college started back up two weeks...<br />

I know this probably is a shot in the dark because I am trying the impossible to get &quot;Yamaha Expanded Softsynth Plugin for MONTAGE M v3.0.0 - V.R&quot; running under Wine in Linux Manjaro.<br />
The Manjaro system is up-to-date (17th of July 2025). I am using the windows Reaper version under Wine so no Yabridge.<br />

I am using Linux MX21 as my OS and I am pleased with it. I managed to overcome a lot of problems in respect to using MX21 as my music system, but of all the Linux distributions I have tried, MX21 strange enough works best.
