The issue these days with most of the world having access to just about anything about anything - is that "better" is a term I seriously doubt is realistic anymore. Also, almost anything that does not fall in line with the 'norm' as dictated by someone, will always encounter discerning opposition. That is normal, but nothing moves forward if everything remains the same. :)

About time. There is nothing wrong with VST3, but I suspect the people who don't like this news are also the same people who still refuse to upgrade from Windows 7. Everything works on Win10 & 11 now guys, time to let it go!

Seriously, still windows 10? It's about time you upgrade to Windows 11. Like they say, if it ain't broke, fix (upgrade) it anyways.

i think there is a strong case that VST3 is objectively better. there is an increased functionality that has already been implemented, for example ARA and interoperability either plugin-plugin or plugin-host. as xupito has said, some of the added complexity is offset by frameworks as people see fit, to the point of being almost a visual process in the right IDE. C is an immensely flexible language -- it has already gone through an evolution to deal with a shift from a linear to object format.

without getting to ridiculously tech-philosophical, i think this might be more a issue of diminishing returns for a given task. these companies have to deal with old model consumer expectations vs limits of a given technology. tech-weenies have probably already given this a name like the 'task-return curve intersection function' -- i don't know. it just does not play well when you are trying to write copy for an ad to get people excited.

@glassybrick because Windows 7 just works, this is my main system for music production, everything works here, Play, UVI, Engine 2, Kontakt, Omnisphere :metal:

I am afraid this the kind of mentality that prevails at Steinberg offices.
If that was the case, people would stick to VST synths and dump their analog synths in the garbage, yet sales of analog synths have never been so high as now.

Guilty as charged. [IMG] I'm still using Win7 and VST2 wherever I can. This is approved and stable as can be (the benefits of VST3 are mostly implemented badly or even not at all). Why should I change it? Everything I need is running fine, I don't like Win10 and will probably (maybe?) switch to Win11 somewhen late 2025.

Was that a compliment or sarcasm?....
    Just joking :wink::rofl:
Words of true wisdom. Go Sensei!

Now seriously, if it works for you is as OK to stick with Win7 as it is with Win10. What I don't understand nor agree is people saying "windows 7 nowadays is shit" or "Windows 10 is shit". Both are fine, with some updates here or tweaks there. I've used both for years.
Can't we just reasonably explain the pros or cons from each one experience?

The future could look like this:

Online: 1 Windows 10/11 for Internet only.
Offline: The "Digital Audio Workstation" on a second system which is not connected to the Internet.

At some point you are so annoyed by the eternal updates, that you just don't
want to update anymore and invest the time better in making more music.

So far, only new Waves don't work on Windows 7 (but cracked works), everything else works just perfect, besides, I purchased a stock of my computer spare parts for 10 years

Good, Steinberg shouldn't need to lock themselves into a 20+ year old worn out ecosystem, they're the ones that invented it and they're the ones that say its time to update things. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade, if you're happy where you are then keep your system as it is, just like many real studios do. But the rest of the world is moving on, you can either go with it or dont, just like life. There's still two years before any of this actually happens, its hilarious everybody is freaking out and losing their shit right away.
