Hi all, I'm drunk right now after spending the entire day fighting with windows so please be gentle.

Has anyone else had issues testing audio software inside of Sandboxie?

I built a new PC recently to replace my Window 7 machine from 2014. The process I found that worked best for me back then was to do test installs inside of Sandboxie to make sure programs worked within my current system/environment, and if everything was ok I would delete the sandbox and do a real install of the software inside of Windows 7. That process worked great back then. It was a great way to keep my install of windows clean and not accidentally screw something up because I could do a "test run" of the software first and discover any issues.

Fast forward to today, and I'm really struggling with Windows 10 and Sandboxie. It seems like there are a lot of cracks, especially R2R cracks that simply refuse to install inside of Sandboxie. I keep getting the error "The system cannot find the path specified" when I try to install many of the R2R versions of apps.

If anyone is so inclined, just download one of the R2R cracks like Native.Instruments.Flesh.v1.0.0.HYBRID-R2R or Native.Instruments.Form.v1.1.2.1.HYBRID-R2R and try installing them inside of Sandboxie. Does it work for you? If so, what did I do wrong?

you know you are downloading legit releases of anything you are working with. why are you even sandboxing them? they may not run noticeably "worse", but there is certainly nothing "optimized" by doing so. you get nothing by doing so.

almost all programs that you install scene releases of will uninstall cleanly if something doesn't work.

This isn't meant to be nasty just my viewpoint after over 2 decades of using warez.

Stop downloading endless amounts of warez and concentrate on learning how to use what you already have.

I bet you have enough software to make any kind of music you want to make already.

I know i got caught up in the endless downloading, testing, cataloging and perpetual upgrading of my system. So much so that i never seemed to have enough time to actually make any music.

I ended up with 50Tb of data, 2 raided servers and 2 large tower boxes full of ssd's, but nothing musical to show for all my time. :(

I finally stopped a few years ago and now have 1 file server and a mac mini m1.

I also enjoy learning how to use my software that i kept and i'm much happier than i was, lol.

Sadly i also found out that i'm crap at making music and maybe i knew that all along which is why i lost myself into warez.

Anyway, good luck with finding out what works for you and good luck with making great music.

Wise words. I know exactly what you mean as I'm the same. I needed to hear that...hopefully I can stop cold turkey and start making shitty music too!

I think you've not only misunderstood my post, I think you've also made an incorrect statement about uninstalling cleanly; I don't install these plugins into a sandbox so I can use them that way, I only do it to test them, to make sure there are no issues. I've had apps and plugins screw things up on my pc before, and I think there are a lot of people who have had that kind of experience. I've also had plenty of things not cleanly uninstall, and leave files all over my pc and entries in my registry which can impact other related audio software. What I gain by sandboxing is the simple, guaranteed one-click perfectly clean removal if something doesn't install correctly.

Well this is interesting. I didn't realize that some of these .exe installers were just zipped files. Still, this method doesn't help. I just tried unzipping the contents and running the various installers and they simply don't work within sandboxie. Some installers just close without doing anything, and others give an error that requests installing from the original media. :(

Yep, this is an obvious one but some people don't do it. I've tried and in this case it doesn't work.

Ummm.... thanks? I don't understand how this is helpful to my original question regarding getting a few plugins to install correctly with sandboxie, but I appreciate your honesty about your experience writing music.

To me, Sandboxie, even the new open-source Sandboxie Plus (which is what I'm assuming you're using), is just too much of a hassle to get software working under, especially with complex programs like audio software. I'd rather use a virtual machine or dual boot two Windows 10 installs, since that way if I want to test software, it has an entire OS to interact with, and it's easier to troubleshoot.

I agree. After messing about with Sandboxie on Windows 10 for several days I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't work as well now as it did on Windows 7, or that developers are doing things in their installers to prevent users from being able to install inside of it. It's a shame, really, it was a really useful tool for a long time.
