    thanks.
to be honest i do not know much detail about how DAW control works, but i feel like it is something i could set up within the DAW, it is just receiving MIDI messages after all, it should not care where those messages come from. i would only have to make sure i use free "slots" to control my instruments, but thats simple enough to stick to.
thanks for the info, i will keep digging.

I've reinstalled all divers and software for Novation Nocturne.. (including the included infamous Bonjour from Apple)
I was unable to make any virtual synth recognize the midi message sent from it.
    Aka no midi learn.

While with the same synth I could, in one second, have my Arturia Keylab recognized and working with midi learn.

So I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. But as this thread is about a Keyboard, I have created another one specifically about Nocturn.

thanks! really appreciate you going out of your way to test this <3

i wonder if older gear requires it but maybe newer gear doesnt. maybe i should message them directly and ask them. also test their customer service at the same time :)

i will continue that topic in your thread though as it is more suited

so ive been digging deep for hours today and i have come to the conclusion that it is not possible to get the full advantage of mackie mode and use it as a general MIDI controller at the same time.

i was able to use BC mode and map controls to DAW functions and pretty much get all the functionality of mackie mode while remaining in BC mode, which would work, however there was a big problem.
in mackie mode the first strip is always assigned to the first track, so if you swap 2 track around the strips will switch on the BCF too, but in BC mode they do not. also if you delete a track all the mapping is lost, which means you have to remap everything for every track every time you add one, which is a lot of work just to add a track.
also there doesnt seem to be a way to scroll through banks of 8 channels the way you can with mackie mode.

it would be a lot to ask though to be honest, i would assume mackie mode uses a lot of MIDI parameters in order to map so much functionality. maybe with MIDI 2 we can explore things like this :D

No problem with the latest Automap versions. You can select which VSTs you want to be "converted". I've had no problem with VST ver.2 so far. Only VST3. It is definitely worth a try.

At the beginning of this year (2020) Christian Henson, of Spitfire Audio, posted a YouTube video which was a recommendations list for a portable composer's MIDI rig. The portable MIDI keyboard he recommended is Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol M32.

    Here's the video.

I use Novation, but without the super-duper crap automap. :)

If Novation SL 25 MK2 is Your number one.
What is Your second top midi controller?
    What You recommend?
