I remember installing Insight 2 and being like, "what the fuck?".
I uninstalled and kept on with the first one.

    I will comment on this.
As soon as enough of my subscribers request my comment.
And they lock in the 3 year plan.

Seems this is also a response to the immense competition in the audio software market. By doing subscriptions, they lock people into their ecosystem in perpetuity. Not only will you need to pay them to load an old project in 10 years, many people will no longer be able to justify (or afford) buying plugins from other vendors when they are locked into several subscription plans with the "industry standard" big boys. iZotope clearly believes their technology has a competitive advantage right now, so they want to cement their position before it fades. We'll see if this was a good move in time. For now, many many customers are very pissed off.

No one forces you to. You can still buy the "Advanced" versions as before.
But I think the new model can be a great addition, since you don't have to pay thousands of dollars for software you just need for a limited time (a project or something).

    For $19.99/mo you get:
    Neutron (Advanced+), $399 retail
    Ozone 9 (Advanced+), $499 retail
    Nectar 3 (Plus+), $249 retail
    VocalSynth 2 (+), $199 retail
    Melodyne 5 Essential, $99 retail

You would need to be subscribed for 6 years to pay that much. But even then you would always have the latest versions vs. a 5 year old software maybe not even compatible with your recent OS.
But again, if you want to pay $1,400 at once, you still can. :dunno:

the question is, if you still pay for them like you used to do before
    e the subscription?
We have seen before that its not possible to do this for some companies and then you are forced to get the sub, which would be here quite expensive.
Yeah but imagine you only need Ozone, then we paid that up in a year and you dont even own it, if you cancel sub, you are left with nothing, while you would still own, if you paid for it.

Better would be what splice does, rent to own: means at some point you can pay the rest and own it.
But thats what most compnies dont want, you should keep paying still, while you are even overpaid it. Also another point with all the subs, you dont know how much money you paid already, while, when you pay it once, you simple "know" Ohhh i paid once 400 bucks, money you can plan for.
Its just like with virtual money and money you have in your real hands, can touch, its consciousness.

Also this in some way is connected with the great reset or it just randomly fits perfect in the arising business and political agendas

I know, that's also a reason I moved on from Lightroom for example. But iZotope doesn't want to be subscription only, apparently. All I can read is that there will be an additional model to choose from.

That's what Cakewalk did with Sonar before the acquisition by BandLab: https://audiosex.pro/threads/cakewalk-announces-new-sonar-plus-monthly-payment-model.16347/
Still people here didn't understand and started ranting about it right away.

having gone from Ozone 5 to Ozone 9 recently, i personally find that some of the new stuff is very handy
especially the low-end focus and vintage plugs
especially for doing surgical processes on existing mixes or demos
that said, im fine using whatever the final non-cloud version is lol

Lets not go there, please. Lets not softshoe politics into something that has nothing to do with anything other than business strategies and greed.

    Back on topic.

I'm not a fan of subscription based services at home, in some situations I can see there is a business sense for it at work but with some very tight constraints and it really depends on technical support and service. I don't see this gaining traction as but it is priced about the same as Audition ($21/Mo) which I personally prefer to RX, so they want to see if they can get some penetration in there.

It's def. a meh kind of situation it is targeted at businesses of a certain size. Businesses are going to chase money, that is their reason for existing and paying customers generally get their way. The new possibilities available with broadband make this an interesting form of DRM. In the old non-networked days it was impossible, but as the dream of thin clients return to corporate software planners gambles like this are to be expected. I do like some iZotope products, I am fond of Nectar and Dialogue Match but if they go down someone else will pickup the slack.

    Time will tell.

For some reason in my mind that sounds like "they cock people in their ass in perpetuity".
Then again, I've got a dirty playful mind.

What a Stupid way to justify their Stupid move!
    Who wants Nectar?
    Who asked for Neutron?
Who asked for vocal synth LMAO!!!!
Ozone is the only thing most people get from Izotope
And monthly service has only one reason: to grab more money from customers who are stupid enough to subscribe. Those who are stupid enough to think by getting the newest shit their horrible music will sound better.
I don't want to reveal my computers privacy to anyone! I don't want to pay monthly fee for the rest of my life.
And at the end FUUUUCK IZOTOPE

All of these subscription models might be okay if you run a studio as a business or maybe a larger project studio but for all of the bedroom producers/homestudio owners it's pretty much impossible to break even considering that you likely won't have a continuous income from your producing/mixing/mastering. Sure, if you would have only one subscription from PA or something it could work but most developers don't have everything you need, like iZotope. The only way it might work is if you would have one or two larger platforms, like KVR, with several different developers and where you can more or less customize your own subscription model so that you only pay for the plug-ins you need.

It's the same crap as with all of the TV streaming services. Trying to solve one issue but instead creating a bigger one. One step forward, two steps back.

    Vote with your wallet. Always.
Unfortunately people do not realize how powerful they are against corporations.

For companies who have a driving force that is completely sales focused and not product-focused I totally agree. Occasionally, you get one that is completely quality-of-product focused, like a musician who only cares about the art, not whether people like it or not. In those extremely rare circumstances, voting with a wallet will make no difference.
