Yea the fact that you are asking a question is well understood...but what seems to be strange is that you think in an environment where you are downloading software from any source other then the developer you think that you should feel a little safe because you are simply used to the name of the people who provides the Keygen. And you haven't noticed any ill intent from those releases

You don't know any of these hacker people personally...you don't have access to there contact info...so any release with there names could infect your computer just as well as a new comer . So yea people understand that you might feel un easy with the unknown who are releasing Symlink but you should always feel un easy with any release that is not from a developer who advertises his location and contact info and goes to trade show with his/her real face.

Also, so far no one has notice any strange behaviors with those releases ..yet...that's right I said yet, because like everything else, it will take time before anyone could "Trust".

Okay, so apparently I successfully installed the latest Xfer plugins that are packed into these SymLink installers (http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5449120). Now my question is, how can I link all the .dll files into my original VST folder in Ableton? The SymLink installer installed the .dll files into C/Program Files(x86)/Vstplugins/Xfer x86 and I would like to access it in D:/Name/Documents/VST Plugins in which I have all my other VSTs installed. Tried making shortcuts but they don't work :(.

I do not use symlink istallations at all. Adjust the path in the .cmd file?
Or you can create your own symboliclink structure quite easy.

    cmd
    mklink /d C:\examplefolder E:\examplefolder

with the above line you can create a symboliclink folder on c that contains links to everything stored in the folder on e.
You could create the necessary folders yourself and store the data in it with the path you like.

Maybe someone can help you with your specific installation.

Did a little tinkering around and I guess I have a soultion. It's not perfect and a lil' clunky but should work for me.

What I did was copy the .dlls from the extracted .zip file I got into my current VST folder and it worked like a charm.

I must be very stupid but... I can't figure out these 'no installs'.

I've done it in the past with Kontakt, with limited success. ATM I'm also trying to install Serum (as linked above. I just use RuTracker and have no idea about the 'sister site' mentioned in this thread; I guess an AudioSex torrent site?

Also... how are people making money off the portable installs? Is there some kind of malware in them?

I agree, it's easy to use symbolic linking from command prompt. If you like that way.

For those of us who are not comfortable with cmd, there is a little utility called "Hardlinks ShellExtension". With this one you can define all sorts of symlinks from the explorer.

    Now you've really annoyed me.

{{Edit}} I just copied everything from the folders 'C' and 'Patced NO SN' into the equivalent in my C drive, and it all seems to work.

Hey, that was crazy easy (knock on wood).

Great Tool. Everyday I use it more.
Specially interesting if you have more than one Windows installed.

Second message and already breaking the rules, not bad. You may like to read this:

'Strong language and profanity is allowed only when not directed towards members of our community.'

    from here:

    https://audiosex.pro/threads/audiosex-rules.19991/

Read them, stick to them or get lost, please.

Although I don't like these symlink stuff either there are a lot of members here who use them and are capable to handle them. And I'm pretty sure if you ask them, you will get an answer. This is how it works here.

    Welcome to THE forum.

    Hello guys,

I still think the explanations are not very clear and I feel like I am not the only one here :)

If you feel like doing a more detailed explanation @Xupito, it would be great !

I have two more precise questions :
    - the install explanations are focused on VST but some files do say AAX in their names. So I assume they do work in pro tools as AAX. Could someone explain what the method is please ? (for example, with the file "Creative FX Collection Plus 1.2.1, Avid First AIR Effects Bundle 12.0, VST, AAX, x86 x64 (NO INSTALL, SymLink Installer)")
    - what is the benefit of symlink over traditional methods with regards to new versions. I did not understand it.

    thank you very much
    ++

Well, I recently updated to the 581 Kontakt (symlink) and had all kinds of weird behaviour. It would firstly not open the gui, then reopening would hard crash (ie literally froze everything, not even BSOD - had to hard reset 8O) but this was with other Kontakt dll installed. W10, C95, x64. I deleted all instances / remnants / installs of kontakt, fiddled around with various things / reinstall from scratch / different DAW etcs and zero effect. Although other DAW would merely force close. It was only when allowing Cubase to contact the web that it stopped this weird behaviour. It seems ok nao (offline) but be wary if you ever find (symlink) Kontakt opening with like just the minimize / close / restore buttons! Only system thing that I can think was changed was to 175% scale.

Copied and pasted from another thread:
    You first:
    - Decompress to one folder, tweak a couple of things (tipically VST folders and your username in Windows)

    After that, benefits:
    - you install or uninstall in split seconds executing a .bat/.cmd batch command line file. therefore no real installation.
    - you can place the VST wherever you want. specially useful for heavy VSTs, sample based VSTis
    - almost always the presets/data you save also end in the no install folder

    Cons:
    - hard at the beginning if you're not an advanced Windows user (once you get the gist is easy)
    - R2R extreme followers will complain and create another hate thread about barbarian russian repackagers :P

PM me if you want more detailed explanations, not sure if I can post them on a thread, but I would like to know to avoid more copy/pastes lol. @Olymoon , can I?

@Xupito have PMed you about a more detailed explanation - I managed to get one symlink install to work but after trying another, neither now work. Would love if you could give me some info about what I actually need to do! Thanks

Nyuk nyuk nyuk ......."Russian lunatic"..... quite amusing, that...... the "how-to" part is hilarious, but accurate too; since Russian and English have virtually no "crossover" in the way Romantic languages and English do (Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian) the challenge of translation is certainly higher, and I'd say especially so with online translator engines.

On topic, though, I'm often very impressed with the fact many of those in the crack-hacking groups, as young as they are, could be regarded as cyber-forensics experts (i.e; reverse engineering, decryption, etc.). I assume that the ones who excel and also gain notoriety in the scene(s) are as qualified to work for the top software publishers as anyone else in those corporations. I also assume the technology in the minds of the release group members is outside the scope of any focused college program.....? Self- and peer-taught probably far more than in any academic pursuits?

I did land here seeking info on SymLink...... learning from so many angles is way useful.

there are no teams anymore....only r2r and viktor.....
..and unless they are teachers , holidays have nothing to do with the output of r2r cause they out of school long time..found a old peace out nfo where you can see its same nfo artist..peace out is maybe near 20 years back....r2r often release better versions as dev does cause they altered code for the good of all users.....r2r is even better then all the devs coders....you can clearly see in nfo statings...

its so funny there are young pll out there who say vr is better cause they dont release complex nfo's lol...r2r didnt invent nfo's i guess...they even did break tradition and did install intru in txt file cause newbs was to dumb to read nfo....and back in day newbs could just read nfo for info on what they did download...today newbs kno always in fact what the plug 423 does which they dl'ed , so no need for nfo lol

My thoughts are, if you are annoyed by this method, which can get some taking used to, go buy the product. Symlinks can be confusing at first because we all got used to the convenience of installer packages. But they are well worth the time to figure out if you can't shell out tons of money, (like most of us), for the retail package. Everyone should always be grateful no matter what. And I sincerely thank everyone who has provided anything Symlink. If there were no Symlink packages available, there would be many things unavailable for us "Starving Musicians" period.
