It might be trivial and many may know this but in case if not...

SNOW is pretty much a digital carbon copy of Rupert Neve's RND Portico II

    - As you all were.

Are there any other software VST clones of the RND Portico II? Googling gave me nothing.

Directly above, the Steinberg version. It is very close, probably because RN was there on the creation while he was still alive. To my knowledge, neither VR or R2R have managed to break the Steinberg versions as yet. Steinberg make both the EQ and the Compressor.

In addition to RND Portico, Steinberg/Yamaha offers some great VCA and FET compressor plug-ins in their Vintage Collection pack. Check
Yamaha VST Rack Plug-In Set in the sister site.

Tell people the plugin emulates a 100.000 Euro Equipment (EQ, Compressor, channel strip, Reverb...whatever), where only a few units were built, very rare, highly sought after, very retro, create a shiny retro GUI and put an absurdly high price tag on the plugin. And voilá - people already believe they can hear real miracles from that plugin :hahaha:

I read most of the posts. I wonder how many of you are professionnals ? producers or mix engineers ? I've been working in the industry for more than 15 years and do music as a living. I compose, produce and mix everyday. My music is released all over the world. I'm using logic stock Eq and Fabfilter eq. 1176 UAD and LA2A. Some reverb like Valhalla, Capitol etc. Soundtoys Decapitator or RC color. But I think I could use any similar plugin because what count are ears, doing good music and be able to produce and mix it. That's all. I tried some of those Acustica plugins and I'm still wondering if they are shit or not. Maybe I'm missing something...

I know your music and it has a really lame mix: you need some Acustica Audio plugin

Haha for sure with AA, music doesn't need to be mixed, just put any plugin on each track and voilà it's done !

I agree. This is why you should always demo and compare with what you already have. There are some very good plugins in their catalogue and many that just sound similar to what they already have.
Not very impressed with their newer plugins, older catalogue although no hyper has more of that analog sound imo.
Also, algo world offers many top notch plugins with lower latency and cpu consumption.

as many renowned mix engineers do, he's keeping the best secrets to himself. for the best mix, you must use a single instance of every separate AA plugin. how you arrange them into your individual tracks is the artistry that the big shots make the big bucks for

You just need to know about the Acustica sampling technique. It's a CPU hungry version of normal impulse responses. It generates a clever tree of IRs that branch out and sort of blend IRs, to build a far more dynamic impulse response that captures the gear's original response. Simplified, it's like the difference between a static pic and a video, to capture the sound of gear. At first that was all it was for, to capture the "harmonic mojo" of gear and transplant it into digital mixing. It was doing REALLY good at that part. Better than all the algo plugins at the time. It's still really good at it years later. The gui for doing it all was cranky and shit, but you got used to it.

Then Acustica realized they can make infinite money by packaging this tech into pretty 3D rendered GUIs, making an appeal to the sheer incurable gearlust we have in this community & making it easy, just buy it and fiddle with the big knobs, no cranky rocket scientist guis any more or even having to know what it does under the hood. It worked wonders because let's face it, we're suckers. Always craving more gear, like the worst addicts.

Their tech has been very useful to me creatively and during mixing/mastering. Acustica isn't snake oil at all, but we're gearlust psychos for buying their stuff at those prices and honestly believing that another emulated old box is going to make our music projects finally blow up and be amazing. I know it won't in my logical brain, but almost each time I listen to a new Acustica product, it hits me right in the feels again and I start thinking that it just might. The old boxes do have their magic, and they capture it very well sometimes.

You certainly don't need their tech to be a successful modern producer, but if you're a hopeless gear addict who's stuck working in the box, then you'll want it to make yourself feel better about your life choices.

haha, your funny...not trying to bug you or sidetrack the thread, I was literally asking you what you used on what tracks, busses and master.
Acustica plugs seem to sound good but all the same, I dont really here a huge different between all of them, and they are seriously ugly, would be better they used look alike models for their whole GUI rather then just a few api-ssl-neve knobs, im still lost and need to check what console, preamp etc is active inside some of the plugs.

and for people talking about symbolic links, I just purchased a $1 app from the app App Store called symbolic linker, you literally put the folders where you want, create a link (looks like an alias) remove the large files from where you will replace them with this link and it all works..

I just cant get MAIZE to load, also El Rey (not El Rey 2) fails.
would be nice if anyone here can share some loving sexy help

symlinking can be just be done via terminal commands. But with the AA plugins, I would avoid going that route if possible. There are already ZL versions of the AA plugins because of the latency with some of the regular versions. Adding all the files to an external drive isn't going to help. Depending on your use it might not matter to you though.

I spoke to apple about symbolic linking, if your using SSDs its seamless on m1+ machines., some even faster

So have you got Maize and El Rey to work?

It can be the same or close enough. Using the external is not going to be any faster while still using the same primary system disk.

as long as its m1 and ssd your assure its fine at 800MB a sec, I did a test and I get between 800-900MB with the Crucial Pro 2TB, and btw its harder for apple or developers to use malicious software or deception to intrude on your privacy when you have network or ext SSDs, its why so many Gov and big companies used Cluster servers.

let me know if yu see anything about data working with Maize and El Rey ?
Mac m1 Sonoma here of course

    thankx
