I believe that’s true for a lot people. I’ve bought legit versions of essential things for work via trying out cracked versions. More than anything, I think it’s made people far more knowledgeable on these products. Cracked versions have probably had a far bigger reach in terms of marketing than any marketing and brand awareness campaign these companies could have created. I’d hazard a guess that a good percentage of those currently making money from music and buying legit software from developers started out with cracked stuff when cutting their teeth. I work in music and I probably still wouldn’t have heard of 80% of plug-in developers if it wasn’t for sites dedicated to cracked software
When I bought my first synthesizer, I asked a few friends what their experiences were and what their tips were. These empirical values are worth more than any advertising. User experiences that flow into tests and reviews on the Internet are also very important and opinion-forming. The internet is known for the fact that the manufacturers present their product as best as possible, negative things are deleted and not published.
This is not a request but a general statement: I'm on a Mac and I'm glad that I didn't buy a new hard drive for this 10k R2R release. Still hoping that they are just warming up right now but something tells me this will be mostly sweets for windows users. They are not done yet so everything can still happen but it's a bit sad that there haven't been a "huge" breakthrough in terms of releases for the mac community in the past few years (from no release group). To be honest I have been using mostly the same stuf in the past years - everything new, I bought myself, as there were no working releases or just releases that are outdated af. There are tons of plug-ins I'd love to test that are yet to be cracked for mac and when I heard the 10k R2R announcement I was kinda pumped. Let's see what black friday brings... Hope dies last.
Took me 2 minutes to search: There are several workarounds (how to use windows vst on mac) https://audiosex.pro/threads/free-app-lets-you-run-windows-vst’s-in-your-mac-daw.5475/ -Plugwire https://audiosex.pro/threads/audiog...t-load-plugins-on-an-external-computer.56963/ -audiogridder -ReaMote -Vienna ensemble pro server If you are not happy move to windows :D
My gess is that R2R are releasing (almost) everything Big bomb for starters: REASON Now they are letting go many sweets (and there's gonna be hundreds more): NI, Rob Papen Reason, Arturia, Soundevice, DMG Audio... I think the insterest is going to be growing... and for the final trick there's gonna be something HUGE (UAD, Pro Tools, Acustica Audio... or so...) We'll see Anyway big thanks to R2R
One word Audiogridder.. well three intel-NUC... grab an old Win Pc and Party. Best of both worlds!! if just for Reason Rack alone it's worth it.
just move to windows, is so much better. I did years ago and never came back. or search ways to use the plug ins in your o.s. like keyone1a already showed you.
I know very well about the workarounds for hosting vst on a windows server. I do own vienna ensemble pro. It's a pain to setup and to recall projects later on. It's just not worth the effort. If I need to buy additional hardware AND put more time and energy into using it, why use cracked software at all? That doesn't make sense. There are a lot of big-headed windows users on here that are missing my point. There are a lot of reasons for me to use a mac instead of a PC and just because a handful of potential interesting plug-ins (I might or might not need) don't run on it, I'm not changing my complete eco-system. I was just criticizing the missing mac releases, not asking for a buyers advice for a windows machine. Cheers.
you are totally right. Obviously, you have your reasons to use mac. And i don't want to start the discussion which OS is better. (each of them have pros and cons). This is also true for DAWs. I am tired of reading which DAW is better. Use whatever works best for you! So in your case, you have these options: -use a workaround -change OS -buy stuff -hope stuff will be released -learn to live without them But criticizing will not change anything either, right!?
I expressed that in my first post. Criticizing can help to show that there are people out there that aren't happy with the 10k release (so far) which might change the releasegroups minds in terms of releasing for mac as well (in the future - I'm not expecting them to change their ways last second). I know that there are more windows than mac users out there but most of my befriended professional producers are using a mac. I (as well as many other producers I know) want to try new plugins before buying (and I don't mean trial versions with limited time use). And as someone else in this discussion already stated - most of my plugins I wouldn't have bought without the sister site (and sites that existed well before that) - giving me access to new stuff before making a buyers decision. Then there's some stuff I'd like to have, which I need like... once every 3 years. f.e. Pro Tools. There were working pro tools releases a few years ago (for mac) but there is nothing working out there right now (not with the last 3 OS versions). I would never subscribe to Avid's shit as I think they are just money hungry boys and I refuse to use any subscription based stuff. Especially if I need that piece of software so rarely. One point to also keep in mind: A lot of upcoming talents (engineers, producers, etc.) are forced to use Logic Pro X as their school/university teaches stuff on this - many customers will come with their logic pro x session in your studio and depending on your role you might be asked to do changes on that session. Buying a Mac is expensive - buying all the software a professional needs and is expected to know - will break the bank of many. Cracked plugins/DAWs for PC AND Mac do help to get new talents started. And yes I needed to learn logic and pro tools as well but heck... I'm not using either of those anymore :D But if my life depended on tracking someones studio session with PT I'd be ready for that. :D
