I think (although I am actually getting a custom 43" IR Touchscreen after the lockdown state gets a bit loosened in here), even buying Slate Raven is a better option than buying this for 900 USD. That's my opinion.

My first reaction when I saw this was : "I'm in love". Then I realised it wasn't a real SSL bus comp and all the excitement gone

Not so quick! Let us be clear about that. True, you can buy some 500 Series SSL for less than the $849, however, the G Comp will run you $2000, plus the box/rack/chassis which runs from $300 to $700. The XL will cost you over $1000 and are no longer available. Indeed, they sell the X rack with 8 dynamic modules for almost $10,000. On top of that, you will need to be able to implement them into your workflow. In sum is not as easy as buying a 500 Series and calling it a day. That is why I mentioned in my previous post that this product will appeal to those that want to maintain their ITB workflow and those unable to purchase the hardware.

    Also -
    SSL Native Essentials Bundle
    Add to cart

The classic SSL console sound for your DAW.

This bundle includes the two most essential SSL Native plugins:
    Channel Strip and Bus Compressor
    Price:
    US $479.00
The plug ins are included with UC-1
so $849 - $479.00 = $370 for controller (just saying another way to look at it).

Yes of course, everyone decides what is best to use to improve their workflow and UC1 SSL may be an option.
For sure, if I have a $ 849 budget to buy gear today, I definitely wouldn't think about this controller

How's Muscle Memory related to this, and why it needs to be nurtured?

It's not like they're selling a strad or a theremin.. :dunno:

The same! But my reaction was during the first thread that this was posted in!
And it's as if nobody has even heard of the words "MIDI" and "virtually any external controller", or at least aren't aware of the power inherent in those things.
If you define what you mean by that term, then I'm sure we can explain it in much more detail.
FL sets up with a default of 480 PPQN.
I personally think it's to hide the poor cpu usage when zooming in when you change it to higher settings as per any.other.daw.
And 480 is why it sounds good for 'beatz' 'producers' because it emulates the early drum machines.

I believe a daw should be capable of all stages of music production, not just mixing.
So I can't fathom "daws for writing" or "daws for mixing", or whatever was said here.

    My vision :
    Studio One
Presonus Faderport (second hand) for channels
Novation SL (dual screen version, second hand) for plugins, being keyboard or controller only

    A LOT less expansive

    But a lot cheaper too.
Actually often better to split a good keyboard controller and have a separate controller for faders, buttons, and pots.
Both products are of better quality then.
Missing my point in my comment before yours. Because this ^ can be done with this:
As long as the receiver can be configured just in case the SL has hard coded CCs with their hardware, idk.

I admire the sleekness and practicality of the SSL controller, and of the Presonus for instance.
And I don't think the SSL is too expensive for what it is really, but having said that, this:
I've got MIDI controller products from 20 years ago with more functionality that this SSL thing!
And they can probably be picked up now for £20+! lol.
Whereby every pot can be on a different MIDI channel and send whatever CC I want, and with enough snapshots to be able to control around 10 plugins or pages.

Considering MIDI is the medium we record to, and is the backbone of all daws, I would imagine it is the most important protocol to be knowledgable of in order to understand what is recordable or inputable, and in how to affectively edit such information.
I hope that the new cats, the "Producers", find that they should learn MIDI alongside learning their daw or even prior, rather than trying to just "learn daw".
Then they will know the true potential of their medium.
Just to know that certain things are possible is a horizon changer, even if I have never used some MIDI knowledge I have! lol
The problem with learning from the beginning would probably be not knowing what is considered "standard" knowledge and what isn't.

In the studio i do not have place for such toy, the console 1 already does the job for the quite same price and for more plugins, really for a limited plugins only to me is a no sense when you can map controls, is ppl so lazy to really need it only because looks nice?

And now imagine you already have these plugins and can't buy the controller for $370.

SSL was bought by Harman a bout a decade ago, and recently Harman got bought by Music Group. Go figure how much of SSL and its employees are left in all these products. :(

Music Group and Harman own most of the music hardware companies, keeping the prices a little lower than they used to cost, but still making a giant profit from them because brand name is so important to the people.

I've got Novation Remote keyboard, Akai MPD32, Faderport, and Behringer BCR2000. All of it cost me about 300 euro and I can say I have more than enough MIDI control. It can get overwhelming, actually. I don't really get this trend of releasing small dedicated controllers for plugins, like TC and SSL. Control 1 does make some sense as it controls a bunch of [their] great plugins that you can produce everything with.

I think that too. FL lacks a lot of basic features and day-to-day basic workflow to be even considered as a DAW for professional mixing and mastering (No hate towards anyone, I am sorry). But I used FL Studio and tried to learn it properly (reading the Manual and constantly goofing around for 1.5 years before getting my hands off of FL Studio)

Where did you hear that information?

It was Samsung that bought Harman for 8 billion $ a few years ago.

I had the same kind of vision. But now, I am going with custom 43" IR Touchscreen (with very small input latency) with Studio One (As it supports multi touch). Now, by default, Studio One has Macros (not like Ableton but much like Macro actions or Slate's Batch Commander) and I will use GestureSign (free Windows software) to incorporate Multi touch gesture.
If one thinks 43" is way two big, you can just go with smaller Touch screen.

Although for Mac, it will not be this easy and will be way more costly plus Mac doesn't support Multi touch natively.

Maybe Samsung got the domestic Harman Audio + AKG departments,
and Music Group got the profesional stff like SSL?
