Among adults from 35 to 44-years-old, 69 percent have lost at least one permanent tooth. By age 50, Americans have lost an average of 12 teeth (including wisdom teeth). And among adults 65 to 74, 26 percent have lost all their teeth.

    Didn't mean to scare u :P

So far so good. At 45 I have all my originals apart from my wisdom teeth which got pulled in my early 30s.

There was an urban myth in the 1980's that Freddie Mercury's teeth were so white and shiny because they were actually dentures... and that he had to have these mythical dentures fitted after an accident using an overdriven vocoder to emulate the vocal mutitracking sound that Queen were so famous for (despite Queen boasting on their first few LPs that "no synthesizers were used" on those recordings, so it seems that this story must have originated round about their "Radio Gaga" synth-pop experimental phase).
The amplified signal + feedback from said vocoder was supposed to have shattered his pearly whites by hitting some resonant frequency, much in the same way a wine glass will break when bombarded with a sine wave at its own resonant frequency.

I never believed a word of it though, despite there being a great deal of thought going into the science behind this myth.

Same here, but I'm starting to experience some gum loss even though I use a water pick, floss, and brush after every meal. I'm thinking it's bruxism at this point.

Same here but they're including wisdom teeth in that stat. That's why the percentage is so high.

Even if someone brushes their teeth every day, does all the right things like floss, uses an electric toothbrush and everything their dentist tells them, along with eating food with a low rate of tooth decay... Sometime after the age of 50 which some dentists believe to be tied to DNA inheritance as well, it is unavoidable with age that gum recession will eventually occur, as sure as skin loses elasticity and other normal effects of ageing.

More people who replace their teeth seem to have plates or dentures. Considering the sheer cost of a mouth full of permanent implants, that makes sense because not everyone has that kind of money immediately on call.

Receding gums will happen anyway, but more so if having been a smoker. And gingivitis can then be more common.
    Precisely.

not very surprising, people are eating way too much sweets and junk snack foods and soft drinks loaded with sugars and artificial sweeteners.

We are organic. Our bodies decay. No matter what science currently tries to do to lengthen our lives, ultimately, our bodies, teeth, bones and shell will decay over time.

IMPLANTS - Many cosmetic dentists swear about the efficiency, low maintenance and longevity of them, even though they are extremely expensive. I am no scientist but if you think that every tooth being pulled from your jaw and 32 porcelain replacements being drilled into your jawbone, MUST do something to the nervous system even if drugged and also affect other things somehow?
It seems logical because it is like getting prosthetic teeth.

No one in my entire family has lost a tooth, apart from a few bothersome wisdom teeth, so I dont believe it. Well, not if you properly take care of your teeth and arent constantly chugging colas, munching down candy and other crap or on meth that is. Which I guess judging from obesity and diabetes, as well as addiction rates most dont take care or avoid that garbage, so then yes, I do believe it. Ok no point to make so im out

If you really want to reel this emotion in then I highly suggest The Amusement Park by George A Romero.

Yes, he's known for The Living Dead and other amazing horror titles. But this movie he made put horror to a whole new definition. Basically it shows a elderly man walking through an amusment park which is a metaphor for life and it displays the issues, struggles, loneliness, depression and a slew of other health problems when you start to near the senior citizen age.

I'm not usually a man that cries very often but I think an ocean fell out of my eyes 3 or 4 times during this viewing. I saw this yesterday and it has really changed my worldview in one sitting. I look a life much differently now. I will be watching this flick multiple times throught my life. The most horrific part is we all treat senior citizens the same way without even realizing that we will be there too.
