on mac there is one version that doesnt fuck up and call home or ask you to enter new keys after the first one . That is the first version, 1.0.0. Was wondering if anyone had figured out a way to patch an upgrade since the 1.0.0 release behaves after you initially set it up . Its awesome that it works but the updates its gotten over the years have given the synth alot more power and it would be awesome to have one of the newer versions and didnt have to constantly get timebombed .

Using Serum 1.301 in Ableton right now and no licensekey/website popups. Now and then getting an error message inside serum when I cycle through a lot of presets very fast, but I can just re-open serum and all is good.

 

I was using 1.0.9 for a while without any problems. None of the other versions worked for me personally.

 

Well, I always had the website opening, the asking of a serial each time I opened it.
So i started trying different serial numbers.
UNTIL.... around the 30th attempt the sn#... stuck!
Yes, no more opening of the site, no nothing. It behaves as it should!
I guess I just got lucky (but I WAS persistent, so...)
I'm talking about the latest version. I'm on a Mac with Mojave as my OS.

 

That's interesting, so they have a serial db inside the binary and if you enter one of those invalid ones, it will nag you?

Where did you find you serials that you tried?

Hmm I ran Serum through a disassembler to check this. There are some serial numbers inside the binary itself but it's only a handful and the one that didn't work for me (caused timebomb) is not in that list.

However, 95% of the serials from a popular torrent release are in that list (1.301b):

OP should really consider trying it then because it might be an approach that works out for the majority (or maybe even all) Mac users.

 

Okay so this probably isn't the right place to ask, but is there any specific reason why this hasn't been cracked for Mac yet? I am by no means an export in hacking software - far from it, but since I had Serum already loaded up my disassembler I started poking a bit around and... there really isn't a reason why it's not patchable from the way I see it? At least from what I gathered from reading through the assembly for an hour. No crazy protection or anything like that. There are even strings inside the binary from Steve that say this app doesn't have crazy hack protection, he just asks people to be understanding and buy the plugin since he's doing it alone.

I tried generating a patch, replaced the existing VST and re-added write-permissions to the user.dat. The first try crashed my DAW as soon as I tried loading Serum but the second attempt removed license key nagging with 1.301b successfully. Serum also no longer overwrites the user.dat file no matter how often I open/close the plugin.

It's by no means a stable patch, but if I was able to do this in an hour I am wondering why there are no actual working patches available through torrent? Is there something I am missing here? Or are there just no mac crackers focused on this plugin at the moment? (Though thought Serum is kinda big so that's surprising)

 

Without wanting to sound rude: Why don't you do it then?
I mean no disrespect here - absolutely not!
But who knows the reasons why there is no working crack at the moment and why none of the release groups seem to deal with it. Maybe you will succeed in refining your preliminary patch and then making it available to the masses. I'm sure some people would be very grateful!

Yeh i get your point. I often wonder that in terms of Mac releases. I guess most groups focus on Windows patches and just skip working on Mac versions if they cause too much extra work. But hey, who knows. Maybe you'll be the one bringing salvation to the Mac community.

10 usd a month for 18 months through Splice. I ended up getting it, no time to waste they won't crack it for Mac obviously :p

Insane plugin the hype was real, I've been a fanboy of u-he products but I have to say Serum is a perfect combo, much faster to make sounds and the built in effects are lit. Also the CPU 10 times lighter, I can load 10 instances of it won't still take much unlike bloody Diva (Repro even worse).

I usually never purchase vsts (thanks to this incredible community haha love you guys) but this one really is a must buy like Soundtoys.

 

Made some progress.
I got it to not timebomb on opening of serum itself, but there's still a bit left, like when selecting presets from the preset selector.

Well at least it goes into the right direction. Will report back.

All right, got a patch for the .vst working (didn't touch AU and SerumFX yet). Can someone send me a recent system/user.dat file with the Serial Popup opening when starting Serum (aka unlicensed)? A fresh install one would be best. Want to verify some stuff.

 

I'm afraid to mess up my installation entirely so I can't help you rn :/
But I dropped a message in the Shoutbox hoping there's someone with a non-working serum install

 

I generated them with the most current key generator. Just kept pressing until I found one that stuck!

 

I put a bit more time into my patch and feel I got it refined enough to be usable. I went on using Serum yesterday with Ableton for a couple hours and haven't noticed anything funky. Everything like settings sticks even when restarting Ableton as well so I think it's ready to go. I'll see how I can distribute and package it if there's interest (though still haven't tried it on a fresh install yet. I'll see if I can find some time to try that later)

But now with hoovoo's message I wonder if that's even necessary if the currently pirated versions are usable just fine with a correct serial.

Can anyone confirm if keep trying different serials did eventually fix the timebomb issue by finding one that 'sticks'?

 

Got the AU patch working too and verified in Logic. Thinking how to release/distribute this the best way. Sent a message to folks over at audioz.download to get some opinions
