V1 was a Cpu Annihalation machine ,more than a synthesizer.
Back when i first ran v1 , certain patches from factory would hit75 to 90% cpu usage , albeit on a 1st generation acer aspire i5....
I couldnt run more than 1 instance...
Before i upgraded to a 7th gen dell i7 10 core desktop, and what was also the last time i used serum on the aforementioned acer laptop was i think around the v 1.118 or 1.21b, and the cpu Heavyweight i once knew had gone, i could run about 6 instances provided it was set to 2x oversampling maxx, and also if the wavetable being used wasnt some crazy Ghosthack one, which still is ludicrous cpu wise...

Now tho, On the Dell Desktop ive run 32 instances all at once at 4x oversample, and im only at around 38 to 45%
If i were attempting that with V1 id have no chance at all.....
Plus i know peepz that use 1.2.1 or 1.2.3 or sumthin , and have no issue on mac at all...

I dont know how you cope with v1 Tbh....
It was good sure, But wasnt the Synth it is today and had nowhere near the same sound design scope

Bro, Seriously, Take into account these were 5 yrs ago, One using Fl 12 and one on android before the program was even half as good as today, The last one actually a 2 Hour mess around On ableton 9 live..

Adjust your levels though , Turn it right down ur end at first,
Plus, In my mind theyre shit , another reason why ive not posted for a while coz my bass design needed work, as did mixing...

 

I did this and work for me on mac
here is the recipe:
1. download and install serum v1.214 (it work without any problem on mac)
2. download serum v.128b6 and just click on update file
3. Enjoy

Yes it does! I experienced the same issue but started over again. I did the following:

1. Got rid of any traces of Serum on my system.
2. Installed v1.214
3. Updated to 128b6 using the update-only installer.
4. Set read-only permissions on the presetdb.dat located in /Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/Serum Presets/System
5. Set read-only for "everyone" and "wheel", read and write for "system" on user.dat in the same directory
6. Did the same to the user.dat in /Users/*yourusername*/Library/Application Support/com.xferrecords.serum (Enable showing hidden files by pressing "command + shift + . ")
7. Restarted the computer and loaded up my DAW.

Afterwards I was able to use Serum without any restrictions. I skip through presets like a maniac and never ever face any error.

Guess I don't have to mention that it is absolutely necessary to use (ideally) Little Snitch to block ANY connection going out from your DAW, etc.

May I ask where you actually get v1.214 and 128b6 from? I can't find anything on the sister side. Or do you actually talk about the legit versions?
