Howdy!

As you know, Windows’ many features are not used during music production. Therefore, Lite versions of Windows seem to be better options.
I searched on Rutracker for Lite versions and found some, but unfortunately their languages are Russian and there is no way to change them to English.
I had a few questions about the Lite versions of Windows.

1. Is anyone using any of them?
2. How are their performances?
3. Have you ever encountered gross errors during the production?
4. What versions do you recommend?
5. Where can I find the latest ones?

Lager, If your version of windows that you want to use is in Russian use the language pack that you can download from Microsoft to change it to whatever language you need, Several friends that I know have used this for to change windows 7 to French, Spanish and Italian and they were surprised how simple it was, the instructions are all there at the download.

 

I found a good lite for windows 10:
Pro 1909 19H1 or 19H2 Build 18363 x86/x64 LITE (2019)


Works very fast without resources' extra consumptions. Tested it out in VM:

1GB of RAM or even less, 4GB Hard space and no bothersome background processes at the first run. I think Windows 7 's traditional users would love to try it out even on their old systems.

For installing x64 inside VM, you have to enable Intel Virtualization (VT) in your BIOS. You can even install a guest X64 version of windows in a VM inside your host running X86 win version.

The same exists for Win7 but couldn't find a free one for the latest Win 8.1.

is there even an app to strip 8.1 out there i dunno ?
on team os is a 8.1 enterprise version...this one stripped down...woohhoo..
i have feeling 8.1 enterprise is OG and 10 enterprise is bit not like the old enterprise agenda _(fck my english you get me)

 

It's the same sht man, don't have any ideas that it's better. Only Win7 is better but it has some limitations with really modern hardware. But if we 're talking Win 8.1 with the latest updates, i prefer Oprekin's Win10 Pro lite 1909.

 

What did I do this time? Oh wait, it's not about a mess. I'm not used you know...

Now seriously, I also use NTLite to do my lite versions, but only for my computer and uses so I'm not the right guy to ask. BTW, NTLite also works for Win7 and Win8. I used Windows 8.1 Enterprise until a while. It seems (for all Windows) NTLite doesn't work so well with Enterprise editions, probably because they're the least tested. It's advisable to apply it in Live mode or just use a Pro version. But at the end, if you're "liting" it, not much difference with a Pro version or even the opposite, an LTSC one (tested it myself).

Right now I'm using Win10 v1809 just because is the latest before the 19XX ones. They introduce some low level changes about security that makes some utilities and programs to stop working.

I've tried Oprekin. For me, Network didn't work anymore after installation and I couldn't fix it, so I stoppped bothering, installed vanilla Windows 10 clean and used some command line scripts to debloat it myself. So my advice would be, don't install dubios win 10 lite versions of unknown heritage from servers that want complete access to your google drive if you want to download it. Jus sayin…

 

You ever heard of Lan drivers maybe ? I installed oprekin's build in more than 10 machines, so far np. Dubious builders don't go about with dot com webpages. As for the complete access to your gdrive, wth bro, you dl it from my gdrive ...

 

Yes, that was very kind of you to upload it to your Gdrive otherwise I wouldn't have doneloaded it from Oprekin. Because Oprekin wants read and write access to the whole gdrive. And that's what I was refering to. Good that it works for you, for me it didn't.

 

did you try to install a lan driver ?

They're very useful. The first thing I do after installing Windows 10.
You gotta love Microsoft efforts for making a decent command line tool (latest Powershell in Windows 10). They only took them like 12 years

Edited: The thing with lite versions is that you must be a very experienced user to know if it suits you. The same Oprekin stresses this on his website.
If I were to use an Oprekin Windows 10 lite I'd start with one of the "lite plus" versions, usually around 2GB.
The regular ones are around 1GB and have for instance Windows Update removed (not disabled). As much as I hate Windows Updates there're some important ones you must install if only for security issues.

There're also some very, extremely weird things. If you remove Internet Explorer JavaScript runtime it breaks some things you'd never expect, like the open file location on shortcuts.
