The thing is, is that I've used Comodo for years without a problem. This is just a recent thing. I also use Spybot S&D. I've scanned for viruses and came up with nothing and everything else seems fine. I think it might be my ISP also but I can download from Uploaded, zippyshare etc without a problem so I'm really not sure what the problem is! It seems to be with those particular download sights.
Hey Sinewave I'm not sure how to ping those sights. How would I go about it?

So what happens when you press the download link? To me it seems perfectly alright. It seems like SupraFiles is working fine. So CloudyFiles is blocked? Only?

Aaah, good old days - Spybot... :) That's a nice proggie. However I remember it going bad in recent times. Can't remember why. Ads or something...

To "ping" a website, open a command line and type "ping cloudyfiles" into the console that opens. Press "enter" after you've typed it, of course. If you get a response, it means you can connect to it, but the HTTP protocol is blocked by something. Like hosts file, like ISP, like firewall. Most ISPs don't care about blocking every net protocol these days, just HTTP [your browser's net protocol].

After I press the download link the Unable to connect page appears.

@DieM Go to system restore. Choose the last one and write down which programs are going to be affected. Run it. If your problem is solved.Re-install the programs one by one. After each installation try to do what you can't now.

Great idea but unfortunately I don't use system restore. Thanks for your input anyway. I'm installing a new OS to another partition and hopefully that will sort it out. Cheers 007.

Have you already tried using another machine/device(e.g.mobile) to connect to those filehosters, to verify that your router/isp aren't the culprits? I'd do that before changing anything on the setup where it doesn't work.

P.S. if it's not a big secret, please also specify which ISP you use, it might help other members.

I tried downloading from same sights on an android box on same router and it worked like a charm. I found the culprit which I'll explain in a general answer next. Cheers Maizelman.

I found the culprit and I feel like a plonker for not thinking of it sooner but hopefully this will help anyone else experiencing a similar problem.
I use Peerblock and haven't had any problems with it before but about an hour ago I realized that I hadn't disabled it. I had also added some lists to it recently.
After disabling each list one by one I found that this list was blocking the sight (http://list.iblocklist.com/lists/bluetack/Level-3) so I just deleted the list and everything is fine now.
Thanks to all the guys who offered their help on this matter and it can now be marked as resolved. Cheers :like:

Damn. It's mostly always a trivial problem like that. Too many different apps makes for troubleshooting hell.

I'm glad you managed to resolve it without having to install the OS again! :headbang: That's also hell.

This DNS owned by Cloudflare and Australian APNIC is one of the best. Good advice to use it even if your ISP is not blocking some DNS addresses.

i prefer a big hosts file supported by someone who cares site instead of peerblock....but peerblock shows you what all connect to you while torrenting...that was sick amount of heavyweight ip's...
today i just would install it to lok what want to connect at normal surfing...

i should compare their lists , but i got no problems...so i wont....using ublock origin, ghostery and someonewhocares hosts file +wasgedn hosts --- and no AV

Thanks. Yeah I agree with this choice of DNS too. I am using it on my Android box too and see a marked improvement in speed and snappiness.
