Dude, an old school beat battle would be interesting.

45 seconds long - you can make a video if you choose but straight up audio is okay with me. You can even diss each other in your language of choice.

If all we get out of this thread is that it would make this thread epic.

This kinda explains the mentality of OP.......
    Scared of what?
Imogen Heap with any tool will continue to express as an artist. Some of her looping is incredible. Unfortunately you seem to be under the impression that new tools alone, without the knowledge of the language, should produce great music.

One who after 40 years in the business is semi retired. I can pick and choose which jobs I take on. I can go into my studio when I feel like it or exercise my right to take a nap between morning coffee and bedtime.

Creativity and music shouldn't depend on any one single software, tool, instrument, etc. While I agree that a DAW is very intimidating to those who first started making music, I also believe that everything takes time to learn and master. It takes patience, persistence, perseverance, and many failures to achieve the desired results. Nothing comes easy but as you learn to progress, you will find all those tiny baby steps very rewarding as well as the amount of knowledge and wisdom gained throughout the process... If you can suppress the inner desire for instant gratification and overcome the frustration that comes with bad mixes and poor recording, you'll find yourself having a great time making music. After all, what fun would it be if you could make an instant radio ready song with a few button clicks....

OKAY, @phloopy and @Von_Steyr, here are the rules:

    (WE'RE gonna play RHYTHM ROULETTE).

    1. Put your iTunes on shuffle and click on ANY song in the Song View.

    2. Skip 10 times--that's your first song.

    3. Skip 5 times--that's your second song.

    4. Skip 15 times--that's your third song.

    5. YOU ARE STUCK WITH THESE SONGS. You have to sample them for your beat. Get creative. Chop 'em, stretch 'em, destroy 'em. Whatever. But make a FIRE beat. NO HALF-STEPPIN'!

    You have a week.

The pro that has too much time on his hands. Damn my neighbour started learning guitar 6 months ago, i gave him Reaper to mess with and right now he says he is "producing" songs. I must admit i am undergoing a denial phase. I mean some young peeps are so naive they think they will rule the world. Not in the future.Yesterday. And i hate the fact half the hiphop guys come to the studio asking for a beat. For like 20 euros. Fuck you all. I don't make beats bitch. I'd rather starve to death. I may have made beats when i was 13. But that was nearly 40 yrs ago. I do not want to accept the whole generation of beat making as a conveyor of an artform because simply it's not. It sucks and it blows. Bigtime. Want me to post Lil Wayne on the guitar again? If you notice that video there's a ton of stupid peeps (underaged girls mainly) screaming with ecstasy because the evil dwarf managed to play the two lousiest notes ever on earth. This is what we have to fight against every day in the studio.
    @phloopy, my friend,
Some people misunderstand the fact that you 're open to all. That you actually speak with them. They think you and them are the same. And when you don't talk to them in real life, you are a snob maestro or something. All i can say is while politically we have the same rights, we are not the same. Does it embarass you that a music forum has pro musicians in it? Wtf are you here for anyway man, if not to exchange opinions, listen to what the younger and older, pros and amateurs have to say ?
Simply put, some people here have devoted their life to music. Are they pros? There is nothing to distinguish a pro from an amateur musician. I personally know a bunch of amateur musicians who can make half the pros around hide in their caves with their musicanship and talent. The only difference is pros have to make a living from their music craft, therefore have to compromise their art in favor of each generation's "beatmakers". So i 'd rather mumble here than spend my time making beats with talentless bitches for petty money. Even if it that would provide a more decent living.
    Cheers

Dude, mastering is really a superhero job. Like the Avengers or something. I consider myself Iron Man having to make a ton of badly ignorant mixed tracks sound good and tolerate them at the same time. Last month i took an ear test again, i can hear from 27 up to 17500 hz with a declining slope of -3 db from around 15k and upwards. 99.9% of the people in my age can't hear anything above 12.5-13 khz. So yes bro, you may call it superhuman alright (pun intended).
PS: I suggest before you speak your mind with clueless characterizations like "old thinking" and such, to check your facts first.

Badly ignorant ? Give us some examples of the kind of things you have to deal with

Stupidity has been unleashed. Hey Zulu child, how about instead of testing the abilities of others in an attempt to highlight your superiority, you make an actual track? And no, we don't want to hear your confused previous piece of repetitive, unoriginal electronic Country and Western, which seems to be your sole composition. Or worse.... your best composition.

I would gladly do so in a perfect world, but in real life this would lose me all the credibility i 've left as a professional, pointing the finger on my own customers. I can post a couple and send you the link in pm so you can judge by yourself. But this will be on Monday as now i'm home relaxing not in the studio.
And believe me it is much worse than what i mentioned lol.

You clearly have no idea of what you have to deal with in the world outside your bedroom. Like I said previously, the greatest joy in working on the kind of jobs I like is that I don't have to backing tracks for Elvis impersonators, then try not to laugh when they sound more like Pee Wee Herman than Elvis. Which is fun for the first few hours. After a week, you need super powers and just focus on the pay check.

I dont have to, it's not my job to deal with bad material, only deal with mine.

Yes they are badly mixed alright. Very bad. But saying some of the tracks you mastered were bad is one thing and it is common like breakfast. Naming them in public though is wrong anyway you see it. That's why i 'll give you a pm on Monday:wink:
