U could get a separate DAC. And then use a player like Audirvana, Fidelia or the likes for your system. Condition is you need to play a lossles format; FLAC, WAV, AIFF.

disable enhancements in your laptop? That would give you an untouched sound.

Faithful reproduction of an electrical signal that activates a coil that pushes and pulls a mechanical diaphgram is always lossy. It's the law of entropy. The best that you can do is invest in highly efficient electromechanical drivers, be they loudspeakers, headphones, earphones, cables, clean connectors etc. and feed them with an impedance matched DAC that has a flat frequency response in the human auditory range. Work backwards in that fashion and you should be on the right path.

Sounds simple - but it ain't. Remember how the very room plus its fixings and furnishings in which you intend to install your audio goodies changes the reproduced sound. There's no way that your room acoustics will perfectly match the listening room in the shop where you bought the gear. Nonetheless, over time you'll incrementally get an instinct for what's going to work for you and what's a waste of hard-earned cash. That's the fun part of being an audiophile.... LOTS of toys to play with and a lifetime to appreciate them all.

My 2 cents.... begin with good speakers coz there's no point routing good signals into boxes that sound like sh*t.

You need an external audio interface, or try uninstalling your laptops audio driver and software, and try to install a 'generic' one, i suppose.

yeah, get rid of the stock internal realtek junk, and try something like asio4all. Or get a real (external) soundcard

Have your Eq's flat, don't mess with the frequencies (leave them as they were intended by the mixer and mastering engineer) and only listen to music flac, wav, aiff, invest in good quality monitors. You can get monitors for so much cheaper now and small ones for laptops.

Here's some for less than 200$ in Canada https://www.long-mcquade.com/13988/..._Compact_Powered_Studio_Reference_Monitor.htm

I'm pretty sure it's already Trademarked™, but it could be just "disable all fucking built-in EQs and shit and use a nice, expensive and pristine DAC (to go along with your dedicated expensive audio interface)". :)

I go with DarthFader. The room is number one. No matter how pristine the sound of DAC converters going through top-notch cabling into mastering-grade monitors, the room will mask the sound coming out of the speakers. The good thing is that smart positioning of the things in the listening room will cost nothing and provide a lot in return. Some reading:
