You have probably contacted customer service or technical support for advice on using or repairing your instruments. Which manufacturer's customer service/technical support would you recommend? Or which one would you avoid? As for me, I have experienced Novation/Focusrite and Arturia technical service. Novation gave me good service at a reasonable price for my old synths plus free knobs. Arturia didn't support my old master keyboard, and they didn't help me at all. It looks like their support for instruments is quite short-term.

Never had to actually send my device in for repair, but for overall inquiries I was surprised at how decent Audient support was. While support wasn't fully equipped to deal with very technical questions, I still felt like they knew enough. They also updated the driver changelog after I inquired about it, so that's also a plus in my book.

I'd agree with your experience. Novation were great to me. Arturia insulted me. and I went with that... and don't even bring up the idea of 'support' for hw with NI lol....

Novation also surspised me sending some potentiometers for free to fix for an old Ks-rack.

I've had to have devices repaired so far, but luckily they were still under warranty.

    - Waldorf - Blofeld with memory problems.
    - Access - Virus TI with memory problems.
    - Novation . Mininova with a broken keyboard key.

I was able to send all three devices in, at no cost to me, and they came back repaired.

Sweetwater tech support are good enough where you almost never even need anything from the actual Manufacturer.

Last year when I found myself in a parallel universe after mistakenly cooking with magic mushrooms instead of my usual shitaki, I found myself remote recording a live show of the band The Jagg Offs at a venue called Madison Round Garden (the group was composed of all of Mick Jaggers grown children and were HUGELY popular) when my RME soundcard totally crashed during sound check and I couldn't get it back online. I had just updated the driver so rolled it back to the previous update but it was still a no-go. I frantically called RME as the show was about to start but the customer service rep pretended that she didn't understand English and that there was nobody there that could, and in a very nasty German accent told me to go fuck off and buy a new unit, then just hung up the phone on me.

You'd get the same thing from UAD, but only 3 days during the week, and 4 hours each of those days.

If your device or PC crashes, you'll be glad you have a second PC or notebook, meaning internet access, because otherwise, they'll be delivered. When my Asus mainboot started giving me problems, I sat down at my second PC and logged in.

Thankfully, I had saved my password externally on a piece of paper. The first thing that appears is a large support form with endless lines. It starts with the exact name and serial number. So, open the PC and, using a pocket rag and a magnifying glass, write down the required information on a piece of paper. Then go back to the support form and enter everything.

After 10 minutes, you finally get to the problem description, all in English, of course. After you've reached the end, highly concentrated and somewhat stressed, you'll be presented with a captcha - an image with numbers and figures - that asks you to write them in the empty field.

Unfortunately, the numbers and letters are often illegible; even with a magnifying glass and the strongest glasses, you won't be able to complete the answer. Your answer is incorrect; please try again. By now your heart rate will be racing. Was it all for nothing? After you've tried all the possible solutions, it worked in the end. You've just created a ticket; we will respond between 24 and 48 hours.

In the parallel universe in which I explored for about 10 hours, UAD over there was called DAU and they only made fondue cookers...but really good ones. They lasted for like 100 years and never broke down.

I wonder how Big Japan is, Korg, Roland, Yamaha. Most of them are swallowed by inMusic that I have read is not good. It was about Alesis.

PS. I used once Yamaha London phone sales department. They were helpful and friendly.

Alesis is an American company, and inMusic is also an American company.

The Yamaha Corporation, Japan, employs approximately 19,644 people.
The Roland Company, Japan, employs approximately 2,783 people.
The Korg Company, Japan, employs approximately 290 people.

These three Japanese companies hold numerous patents, are highly innovative, and are not part of inMusic.

A company should always provide its customers with good advice and support, otherwise they'll turn to the competition. Unfortunately, competition is fierce and cost pressure is high—so labor-intensive customer service is increasingly being outsourced or reorganized. As a rule, if a company wants to make a profit, it has to offer good products and good support.

I've been in touch with Korg and Roland local reps for hardware repairs, and they've never been nothing but helpful, even with way out of production gear.

MOTU were pretty solid, they had an actual techie responding to my query (i.e. "why is my interface dead when hooked up like this?") and they a) diagnosed the problem, b) RMA'd the device and c) gave helpful advice (not in any manuals) on how to avoid this in the future. Took some time to send the device to the US and get it back is all.

E-mu, when they still did actual production gear, were good but fairly slow.

Behringer... well you know, their reply is canned and amounts to "send it back, you'll get a new one", but hey, at least they give no resistance doing so.

Software side... another topic I guess.

Every since Michael Stipe quit RME they have really sucked as a band and a company. I still like the b-52's but their Neumann U B52 sucks, everything sounds like a friggin bomber going over your studio. I called Tehc Suppoirt, but they said everybody was at lunch and to call back later, but when I called back I got a buzy signal, which I decided to record and use as the intro on my latest song "Whatch doin L8r" that is getting a lot uv industry buzz, (cause I also mixed in a buzz saw for my drum track).

so I have mixed feelings, tech support often sucks, but it can help you be creative if you just don't give up and drown your sorrows in gin and cranberry juice and a bag of chocolate chip cookies.

px... sorry about ur Mulligan Random Garden experience. I would call Mick Jaggers house late at night and hang up after making farting sounds for a minute or two,if I were you. He still has the same old number, thats why he has like 876 kids, he still gets the old booty calls swingin by at 2am (thass why you know he will answer your fart calls). I heard Rod Stewart gave him a pez dispenser of Darth Vader that is filled with Viagra. but you probably knew that.

Psxx.. Pez has exchellent tehc Zubbort, I got a prz stuck in my nose sidewayz and they had me cough until it shot out of my noze and went in orbit. then they sent me some free Pez and a waiver to sign that released them from all legal responsibilities for any actions I perform with a Pez dispenser, and they gave me a thousand zimbabwe dollars (which is about 1.85 usa), which I thought was a nice gesture.

A lot of peoples wander how big is Japans, so I axed AI (cause am a big fan of end of humanity and all that stuff) here's what AI sed,

"Japanz is a grope of eyelandz uv the coast of Chinar, It is zimiliar in landmass to Ruzzia & Chinar combined if you throw in Alaskar too (to with an extra "O" means also, not 1 more than 1, like I thought). Japanz was settled by penguins until a mess of tourist from hawaii got lost and landed their and decided it would be a great place for growing rice and transistor radios and then they found out tansistor radios could be made into synthezizers and stufffs, and Roland is your cousin that takes your lunch money, and there we was."

I thinks AI, meant Bob's yer Uncle, but when i axed it about the Roland thing, he just kept to the story and started making random beats on a 303, and giggling and farting, AI's are really disgusing for being so smartz.

so thats just how big Japan really is, if anyone else asks..
