Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm new

I've just acquired Trilian. It came with 5 disk ISOs

Mounted the first and ran the set up, it installed .dll files to my vst folder

Mounted disk 2 and ran it and now when trying to select folder for data on disk 2 it says "This is not a STEAM folder. Perhaps you created a shortcut? The STEAM folder must have a trilian subfolder"

All disk 1 did was install the dll files, it didn't make a steam folder and I can't find one on my computer

What scene release version do you have exactly? Was that first "setup" you ran an updater perhaps and not an installer? Spectrasonics stuff's are riddled with updaters that will update just the VST .dll's per se or update just some sound bank files. A lot of the time there are updaters packed in with the actual full releases which can confuse things even more... Obviously you'll need to get a full release version installed before any updates can be applied.

    A few generic things to try;
    1. make certain you're not connected online.
    2. make certain you find and run the setup for installing the full release version (as opposed to an updater)
    3. run the installer as "administrator"

    Software version 1.1.4c
    Soundsources version 1.0.1
    Patches version 1.0.3a

Managed to install all disks, set the steam folder, but I don't have many bass sounds and most sounds say "cannot load soundsource. File may be missing or corrupt. Try refreshing the soundsource browser"

The Core Factory Library 1.6 should be approximately 33 gb worth of downloaded data in the archives before extraction. It will be different size after extraction; but it shouldn't be wildly different from what you ended up with. Check the overall size of your Steam folder and compare.

Try this from an old thread here: https://audiosex.pro/threads/trilian-problems.25850/

My soundsource folder is 32.9GB but there are only like electric bass 01, electric bass 02, legend bass 01, legend bass 02

I thought it was an issue with the external hard drive I installed it to because it was fat32 so formatted it to NTFS and tried again. Still no luck :(

Also have that pointed at the correct location for the steam folder

well it sounds like you have at least gotten the correct download of the initial core lib. on your external drive, lets call it D: but it can be whatever. Getting your Steam folder setup properly is the first steps.

Your directory structure can be like this. d:/STEAM/Trilian with all your subfolders and content inside of that one folder. The easiest directory names or structure. Your folder names must only contain English letter characters.

During your install steps, you should have gotten past the message: "This is not a STEAM folder. Perhaps you created a shortcut? The STEAM folder must have a trilian subfolder" that you hit last try. Now you should have valid Steam folder.

Did you delete your index.zmap file yet? It will recreate it when you load it up again. On your Splash Screen or logo on interface, hit the diagnostics button. It will give a better picture of where you are at with this.

Changing the drive's filesystem to NTFS was the correct step to make on Windows: For all users - please avoid exFAT or MS-DOS (FAT32). These formats are never acceptable on any platform as they limit the amount of data that can be written or transfered, which will cause your Spectrasonics sounds to load very slowly. According to them anyway ;) https://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=23&categoryID=9

I heard about the index.zmap file but didn't want to delete anything incase I had to reinstall trilian. Where is it and what do I do?

in a Default Omnisphere installation, it is located at /Steam/Omnisphere/Soundsources/Factory/Core Library/zmap.index and another in the User directory above that. Trilian should be something similar. If you want to play it safe even, just rename the zmap.index to something like zmapBAK.index so that when the program goes to call it under the correct filename it won't technically exist. But you can always put it back if necessary.

You could open it in a text editor to see what is contained, but basically it is a file index of your actual soundsources to speed loading up. Like a table of contents.

This is a pretty good article about this with Omnisphere, but it is the same general stuff: https://www.getdroidtips.com/try-refreshing-the-soundsource-browser-error/
