No no...I don't need an ISO, yet.....

I was asking if the heidoc downloader tool d/ls the latest official ISO because I did, in fact, use it to to make a slimmed down win7 install.

So was just wondering if I need to trash it

Run a SHA 1 check. Compare it to the ones I provided. IF they are different , then the ISO you used is not the original one.

I would NEVER recommend any convenience or quality rollup. Period. That is how Microsoft baits you into downloading and installing its crap. Read the name "convenience". Those are designed for lazy customers. Those not interesting in examining each update. I just explained that here. After Service Pack 1 every update needs to be scrutinized.

What you do is you install either Windows 7 SP1 and then you start choosing which updates feed your needs. Or you install Windows 7 Lite. Much simpler either way than what you suggested..

That's what i originally was doing, researching which individual windows 7 updates are important to install, but there's A LOT of them to research.

Then Windows 7 Convenience Rollup (KB3125574) got released in 2016, and it intrigued me more to research that because it will be easier, and i think it contains most of the windows 7 vulnerability updates from 2009 to 2016.

The downside is that it contains some telemetry, but i am sure there's a way to disable all of the included telemetry/spying via tweaks.

Here's a list of all the updates included in the Windows 7 Convenience Rollup (KB3125574)

There is a lot to do but once you do it, you don't need to do that again. Indeed, the first thing I do with a fresh install is exactly that. Decide which updates I need and install them. Then I clone the drive and create a system image, and am good to go.

I almost installed the Convenience Update myself, so thanks for mentioning this.
At this point (after looking at possibilities and going down the rabbit holes (for the uninitiated) of building my own I backed off
I have been using a restore image of an old slipstream install I did long ago with just some basic UI tweaking I like.
I keep my W7 machine on the LAN but off the internet so I figured I would not have to worry much about telemetry stuff.
I was hoping to just update mainly for compatibility or any performance increase.

  12. Who cares? I mean really? WHo the fuck cares? Life is too short to be fornicating around with cockamy Win 7 releases. But don't let me put you off. The oncoming brick wall of incompatibility is coming at you at the speed of progress. The day will come when you can go no further, and you can't have all the new toys that everybody else gets to play with. If you can take that on the chin without whingeing like a spanked arse, enjoy Win 7 for as long as it lasts.

I can't be bothered ridiculing you for it, because i know where it always ends, and I feel sorry for you.

You are correct in what you told @wasgedn , however, if @wasgedn or any other W7 user ( including me) can't continue to make decent music with what we already have, no amount of new technology, vst updates, new DAWs, is going to make it possible.
We talked about this on another thread. Indeed, just look back 10-20-30 years and compare it with what we have today. If we were making music back then we certainly can go on for another 5-10 years with what we already have.
In sum, the end of Windows 7 support by Microfuck doesn't mean the end of the world nor the end of producing music with Windows 7. Just my 2 cents.
