    1. Own DAW's stock plugins
    2. Airwindows - Chris Johnson creates plugins that sound (sometimes just in the right room) but no GUI. Some of his creations are whacko jobs, but when you find the right one for the job, magic happens.

  6. Some nominations:

kjaerhus audio GC01 - the cleanest software compressor ever. Long since defunct but should be available in the sister site's archive.

ircam verb 3 - the closest thing to a Bracasti M7 this side of three grand

Pretty much anything by the now deceased H G Fortune - the wackiest mad arsed synths ever.

Artificial Audio's Obelisk - the filter bank thingie trick done really well

    Sonimus - everything he makes

You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the princess.

Man Klanghelm and Cytomic the Glue are NOT underrated. Everyone and their mother talks about how The Glue is one of the best compressor plugins, and Klanghelm won plugin of the year on Gearslutz for MJUC. They are great, but they get just as much praise as they deserve.

Is it fair for me to say Image Line is underrated? Harmor has its niche in bassy music styles, but really they make a lot of fantastic plugins and I don't think they get nearly enough credit. IL plugs simply let you do things that most others don't

It's my personal opinion that Avenger is undderrated. I haven't seen it get anything like the kind of hype that Serum gets. Or Massive. Or even Omnisphere, and IMO it's better than all of them. Serum's a little easier, Omnisphere probably has a better library. Aside from that... meh, give me Avenger. It's on like 75% of the channels in everything i make

I don't think they're underrated. These are two of the most loved and respected developers out there, and they set the bar for high quality with low footprint plugins. @Cav Emp, buddy, it's good to see you active again.

I have to agree with Cav Emp about Avenger. In my personal opinion it sounds a lot richer than Serum and it comes armoured with many noise sculpting possibilities. It is a monster of a synth and I am suprised that there are not so many rave reviews about this one.

HALion 6 is "The Beast" but Steinberg is very bad about promoting it! Also Air Music Tech's Transfuser, wow what a plugin. And stock plugs, of course!

Reaper. It has always been under-rated when it comes to first choice (I once under-rated it too). But it's awesome. Seriously.

IMHO I agree with others who mentioned built-in stuff in DAW and I am adding these 3rd party plugs:

    - Synths: Dune and Legend (Synapse audio), Circle (FAW), Aalto (Madrona), PunchBox (kick drum module from D16)
    - FX developers: Audio Damage, ToneBoosters, ValhallaDSP, Sonic Charge, Cableguys, kiloHearts

Regarding DAWs, for me it's Presonus Studio One which deserves waaay more publicity than currently has and also Bitwig (although still in early stage of development). I guess Presonus is not "cool enough" company to attract more younger crowd like Apple, Ableton, Image-Line, Roli etc.
I blame their marketing strategy which is focusing S1 to be more ProTools replacement than overall great tools for producing of all genres, especially for electronic music (and "bed producers") which they are almost ignoring.
