So you work as a slut in the day and produce in the night? Jeez! And i thought i was a freaking upside down person. My clock is reversed too:chilling:

Back in the subject, as always, rules don't apply where music just sounds good. You may innovate. But the general idea if you still use omni is to watch your phase if you don't want a big messy mix on the radio.

I like 2C Audio's Aether, ArtsAcoustic Reverb, and Valhalla Vintage for algorithmic verbs, Logic's Space Designer for convolution.

LPX Space designer is also low CPU (cause it's native of course)

  6. I definitely hear you about turning down the reverb until you can't hear it, of course unless it is pivotal of the mood or as a deliberate statement one is trying to make, trying to get a point across. Where would the beautiful records made by Enya be without the voice of intricate reverb layers utilized throughout much of the work attributed to her.

I've been playing with the adaptiverb plugin demo and I can say its quite nice. No more sidechaining on your lead or vox aux/verb/returns. A lil heavy on the cpu tho.

what are your typical plugins treatments and in which order you use on a reverb aux track??

Personnally I put in first my reverb, then an EQ ,a Compressor and then a Gate.
My EQ usually cuts LF (+/- 350 Hz) and reduces with a HighShelf Filter frequencies on top (2.5 KHz/6 KHz ).

I don't put an EQ before my Reverb to cut LF of the sgnal source, maybe I should??

Omnidirectional... as in microphone patterns? Sure, but I'm still confused why this came up lol. Is it related to something I said, or did you just introduce it to the conversation? Because I record with a cardioid mic and almost everything else is synthesized.

I'm digging the Eventide 2016 Stereo Room. I'm still exploring it, but from the get go it's easy to get it to sound right. It's a great gift from Focusrite. One more reason to buy their interfaces.

This would allow the reverb to initialize without counting those frequencies , thus resulting to a more "clean" verb.I think it depends on the plugin's algorithm though.

I mean, I can sorta understand when some dude said Jaco Patorian wanted reverb on his bass or whatev. He prolly (dunno teh guy) wanted all that slappy tappy shit 2 have reverb. To me that equates 2 mic 4 fingers and send that 2 reverb. Or just ignore him and nod! I mean, like u said omni just gives u a muddy, phasey mess.

Yeah, i mean it kinda depends on ur intent and even form; there's only ever "rules" there so u know they can be broken. Especially in music. I dunno tho; I'd prolly use (still) just lil reverb & use delay 2 create that big, dreamy, washy fx that I think (?) ur refer 2? Easier 2 cntrl & match w/ beat & maybe get lil arps, or whatev. Must watch vid now!

Yeah, defo. Better option imo is just don't send ur omni 2 reverb, I mean it dpnds on instrument, but I would guess 95% of the time it's easy choice. In ur example; snare, hat etcs => gate/eq/verb. kick, lo perc etcs => gate/eq. Just takes (1 click?) 2 route ur outs, vs fiddling with eq to no effect (pun). I also rarely (ever?) use compressor/limit/etcs; I just play better*! (edit vel bttr =)

I mean, it's good practice imo (also saves ur CPU) 2 be lazy (efficient) in ur chain; try 2 chop out "stuff" (sound/noise/whatev) b4 u start 2 think about adding "process" (fx) 2 it. I mean, if u gate stuff 1st, less burden (stuff sent) 2 eq, which then means less burden on verb, which (generally) takes most processing hit. But if u route (ie) kicks / lo perc away from verb b4 = zero processing hit, less fiddling around. Kinda no brainer, rly. Don't get the resistance / questions; doesn't everyone do this?! Oh well, ur gain is my loss, or smthn.

Heh. U trolling bro? Just omnidirectional sound. Stuff that effectively doesn't "reflect" IRL, u know? The stuff that ur prolly try 2 filter out? Just don't send it in 1st place!

*Don't rly see the point in compression, rly, with VI. Or Melodyne. I'm not a guitarist, tho, so playing bttr is an option, I guess >__> trolloloolool

You got me confused with the last one. What do you mean stuff that effectively doesn't reflect IRL? Are you talking about certain frequencies that will not effect well in the plugin, or just frequencies that normally wouldn't once back so bright?Or are you talking about mid-side divided sound?:dunno:

  17. Lots of reverb plugs give you the choice to attenuate, highlight or set it up with high and lowpass filters. What would be the point of eq before it hits the reverb anyway. It does not behave like a reflexive compressor. The only time I would personally eq before reverb is if it is a spring reverb, to perhaps avoid the low pingy boing from hitting hard down there. Also, using compression after the verb really let's you highlight with an exactness not possible without. Draw in some animation when you mix and see how it can make places more interesting at different points, not the samo samo. Experiment, make mistakes, use the mistakes, grow, experiment, make mista....

Yeah, i agree w/ u, maybe 4 diff reason. I just assumed it wasn't Altiverb or whatev, but I guess even in Altiverb they use eq b4 doing "heavy lifting"? I imagine, too, that (ie) stock eq has less hit than bolted-on eq in verbs. Which I also don't have presets set up for, more importantly =)

Stuff that doesn't bounce off the walls - "reverberate" >__> u know. Generally u "feel" those heavy bass sounds (ie) cos it goes through u and rattles ur insides. Travels in all directions. Doesn't "reflect". Muddies / phases up ur mix. Feel like ima being trolled without mercy!

Nvr rly understood the point of compression, rly. Why flatten out lovely dynamics artificially? Just play / edit bttr. Learn. Grow. Develop. Like some wise dude said! =)

Nope.I just needed a more detailed explanation of what you meant.Just like the one you just did.Yep that is what i understood in the first place, but then you mentioned the IRL and i got confused.I know, it's hard to describe sound with letters. But generally we are saying the same thing.Solved

I absolutely adore Altiverb. I hate to say it but more settings always makes things more complicated and I've always preferred the sort of "rompler" approach that convolution reverb is capable of. I haven't played around with the settings too much but is there any way to add more convolution reverb responses to Altiverb other than its own?
