What if... you could record your whole band or entire 3D sound scene at once, anywhere... with just one single microphone and then mix your songs afterwards - with the flexibility of a multi-track recording setup! http://www.zylia.co
Directional Mics? Now if they could mount it on to an intelligently positioned drone...............nah, but it looks interesting, thanks @Magic Mango
Cool story. A demo of that thing splitting all the instruments & vox onto individual tracks, with no crosstalk/bleeding might be nice too, but hey...
interesting. simpler solution. some more info here: Zylia ZM-1 Multi-capsule Microphone https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/zylia-zm-1
A bunch of things: 1. Zilia is sitting smack in the middle of the band, on tits-high stand. Name one situation where a venue would allow such a thing (vs. tapping into the house board). 2. The mix is already acceptable; the vocalist has a mike, everything still bleeding into everything, even without drums (recording in, say, a practice space involves drums -- an annoyingly loud instrument that bleeds into everything -- that's why studios have drum rooms/isolation partitions etc.) 3. Either bass & guitar already have flanger/phaser on them, or mike/associated math wizardry is making them sound as if they do. Musicians/studio techs are very particular, will talk your ear off about opting for a vintage 4-5 figure ribbon over a large diaphragm condenser. This has 19 elements, which (if I understand what they're doing) rely on destructive phase interference, sorta like a phase array radar, but backwards? Dunno, wish them all the luck, just doesn't seem very practical.
