I have the problem that my H2n (Firmware v3.0) is no longer recognized by Windows 10 20H2 and Windows 8.1 Pro uptodate.

I remember i always plugged it in and it would ask me, SD Reader or Audio I/F.
I suspect its their Firmware upgrade, which fucked this up.

I wanted to use the H2n to record some Drum kits from my keyboard directly into Ableton. So use the USB Audio it provides.

    This drives me crazy.

Older firmware is no where to find, only v3.0.
Why do i upgrade Firmware, when everything is working?

Any ideas? Or do i need to fine tune some settings? There goes my Friday night dealing with such Bullshit.

I solved my issue after hours of trial and error:
You can only upgrade the system software on the Zoom H2, when you use an SD card; if your SD card is an SD HC, then it will not work! One option is to use the 512kb SD card that comes with the recorder for the upgrade. Once the Zoom H2 has upgraded the software, you can then switch to a larger capaciy SD HC card.

    i will try it:
At least it is recognized as USB Composite Device, might need to try these steps a few times.
Its weird it does not work on both computers out of the box, it always did.

Probably a badly written driver due to lack of time. Almost always it is the drivers that act as the interface between hardware and software.

there are no drivers, the only thing changed is the firmware 1.21 --> 3.0 - Zoom uses Windows default drivers.

    hmm

Zoom sucks on writing drivers and software. I also have the H2n but I never connect it though USB. Only use card reader to move files to pc.
I had the Zoom UAC-8 USB Audio Interface which had terrible drivers for Windows (please don't post a comment to praise the Zoom UAC-2 USB Audio Interface, not the same as UAC-8)

No, i writing with the zoom support like 2 weeks.

An option could be to try to downgrade the firmware, hope this is possible, because it worked last year and shortly after that upgraded the firmware.

not really in the mood to ship the device for reparing/checking around ...

upgraded from v1.2 --> v3.0 and after that i havnt used it for one year.

when connected via USB, i can save battery and dont need to recharge and i could easily record sounds directly into Ableton, its just easier as to save it to the card and all that.

    this always worked for me.

    finally got it working.

Turns out that you have to set input to ON. It is very bad labeled, should had been named to external IN or something.
Not sure if changing sampling frquency played into that, DAW is 44.1kHz or 48kHz.

So i had the the TD3-MO connected via audio cable into the Zoom H2n and selected this via FL ASiO as input and was able to hear the audio from the TD-3 inside Ableton. THis is awsome, so it was a user error.

You can ofc also record the normal internal mic into your DAW.

    This saved my day!

    https://www.reddit.com/r/audio/comments/i4rwgd/zoom_h2_old_model_and_windows_10_how_to_make_it/

"Options are basically to either set the sampling rate in the H2 to 48khz when you enter Audio I/F mode, or to dig through the Windows 10 settings for the microphone until you find the sampling rate, and set it to 44.1khz. I don't know if windows 10 will remember the settings for the next time you plug the microphone in, so I elected to just change the settings on the H2. Now I can take my virtual guitar lessons without overdriving the microphone on my Laptop."
