    Giant geek alert!
Right on the money. Very good deduction. And probably because of that, the conversion to mp4/H264 (AVC1) gives bad quality. The best quality for video is 480p using VP9 (Google's codec) which makes sense because, well, it's Google's. And H264(AVC1), which is the only video codec alternative to download, was not so widely adopted in 2010.

So these are the best quality:
480p/VP9/OPUS in webm format (container would be the technical word)
    480p/VP9/OPUS in mkv format(container)
They're almost identical. All listed in JDownloader

This is the 480p/VP9/OPUS in webm variant(container)

Aaand here I am. Yes I've done what @SineWave did, so the explanation is all there, I knew I can go to sleep :winker:

    @Roject
In simple words - you liked what you watched on YT (and not what you DLded) so I went to YT and checked what was that you were watching ...and here is the codec and the two magic numbers..;)

All the rest was thoroughly explained

If you want to go really deep VCV as a modular synth can do the craziest stuff with 1000+ Modules (freeware ) (It's open source and a VST version will come sometime too ) But it's great to sample from it

Are you nuts? Every single extension adds to the RAM usage of every tab you open, not to mention privacy and/or security risks and slower browser startup time. Browsers should be kept as lightweight as possible.

One interesting thing seeing @SineWave post is that the youtube-dl tool is able to find better audio (Opus 160kbps) than JDownloader (Opus 128Kbps).

I've never checked what JDownloader uses internally for this YT downloading but it also offers you all the possible combinations of video/audio/rates/formats. If needed it downloads them separately and then multiplexes audio and video with FFmpeg into a final video with audio file.

I wouldn't be surprised if it uses an older/lighter version of youtube-dl inside.

no high ram usage ..browser start time is fine ....BTW this is my old x86 surf puter just 4 gb ram... I have OS lightweight as fck...my puter starts fasT:some app reported that 90% of its users have slower starting time (i say ,cause they booting all the shit servces nobody needs)
and this puters runs with 1,2-1,4 gb ram when open a stream...when having open several taps with streams open its bout 2,5 -2,7
only DAW pushes RAM to its upper limits on this old puter..
BTW 2 the workflow and surfing is much faster on this mchine instead of most of neighbours newer win10 machines cause they clogged and runnin an endless list of uselees stuff they do not even know bout

and dude about security risks ::hahaha:forgive me

which Browser do u use ? google chrome ?:mad:

I don't think so, but who knows. JDownloader says 128Kbps, and not even using MediaInfo I'm able to confirm the audio bitrates of the different versions of the video I downloaded.

Sounds like a crappy adware driver booster/cleaner program nobody needs to me!
Probably because your OS and browser know you have a potato PC with only 4 GB of RAM, and 1GB of this is already used by your OS alone. Have you checked swap/virtual memory usage?
    - In my experience, Windows 10 is one of the fastest operating systems around, definitely faster than I remember XP, and way faster and more convenient than 7. It's also faster than macOS 10.14.6 Mojave on my dual boot workstation. This applies as long as it's a relatively fresh install, as soon as you install tons of stuff that keeps running in the background, it craps out - like any other device with any OS.
    - Speed is rarely coming from the operating system itself, it's much more about crappy low-power CPUs and terrible quality SSDs (if not even worse HDDs, usually a low power = slower and less reliable model). The point about endless list of useless stuff applies definitely, that said 10 different youtube downloader extensions also count as endless list of useless stuff.
Each piece of software you install is a security risk. It's even more of a security risk if it's a plugin for software you use to log into your bank account and do shopping with. Installing 10 random "pro hiq youtube downloader" extensions for your browser is not a smart idea, especially since fake/malware extensions are a big problem in browsers, even more so than on mobile app stores. These days you should be installing any extensions you might be using (uBlock Origin, Stylus, Tampermonkey, etc.) directly from the developer's website precisely because often there are fake malware clones on the official extension store.
Vivaldi, which is Chromium based. When you have a workstation with 32GB of RAM, and have 150+ tabs open, and Activity Monitor (macOS) shows over 40GB used by the browser, you'll realize the number of extensions you're using really changes a lot.

    --
apart from that you made a point of keeping things clean and unbloated and i did tell you have unbloated puter and this 4 addons dont slow down at all...never said win10 is slow..i said i outperform neigbours clocked and bloated puters which are newer , (i also should have said in surf and win explorer workflow)...i said win 10 cause they newer , i didnt compared OS , sry for misundertstanding..

I'm happy with Win10, but I can't agree with that.
