DC8C, +10db, classic 2a + 76 (by NI) combo emulations. Not all of them at once. Just combos like either DC8C + VC2A, either +10db + VC2A, either VC76 + VC2A. Each compressor doing half the work so they both work in conjunction without overcompressing the vocal.

P.S. the above combo is my old vox compressing chain. Now i tend to implement MJUC MK1/MK2 (even MK3 if it's suited by a specific vocal) too, since i bought it recently and it's really creamy sounding.

  8. A little on the way in with Pro-C and a (sometimes) little more on the way out adjusted to suit the mix.

Oxford Dynamics is a favorite. Besides that, all mine have already been listed in here. VC 2A/76, Klanghelm stuff, CLA 2A/76.

For hip hop vox I usually start with the API 2500 into the RVox.

What kind of settings you use on API (tone section)?

Interesting, is there by any chance separate offering for same (without strip)?

Do you follow MJUC with something (another comp like older combo)?

After a little more experimentation, MJUC has impressed me more than any compressor plugin I have ever used. I lined it up against the Waves and NI 76/2A emulations, Fab Pro-C, DC8C and Oxford dynamics - all my favorites. Those are all great plugins, and the MJUC makes them sound almost bad! The MK2 adds some warmth to my brother's voice, which can sound kind of thin and sometimes nasal even on the SM7B, and the MK3 tames some mud from my voice, which is a bit deeper, and adds some presence. All with 2 knobs and a couple switches. It's like freaking magic. I 'm gonna buy this when I get paid this week. It's so good and worth 5 times its price.

Yeah, If i use MK2 model which is more snappy, then i combine it with an LA-2a emu or a digital compressor with a soft knee setting. Also MJUC can work just on its own, now depends on a specific vocal and what it actually needs processing-wise. The combos i usually reach for ar the snappy + smooth, one cathing the peaks, the other smoothing out the other comp's result.

Is that only that particular 1176 emulation, if yes, could you expand on it more, what's great about that one and what you tested more?

CLA-76 is a FET based compressor, superfast acting compressor. Comparing CLA-76 with CLA-2A is like comparing apples and oranges. FET vs Opto.
Also, i didn't like CLA-2a either, but i didn't like it against another 2a such as the VC2a from NI.
Even though they're different, for punchy stuff i still like MJUC's vari-mu MK2 type of compression against a FET compression(cla76, vc76, ik Black76,etc) on drums. Dunno why, but it's just a personal preference. I also tend to combine it with +10db in some cases. The combo really shines on some percussive material.
