He was working with "Fabfilter- Timeless 3" which was released today on audioz for 6 hours and suddenly it gave a strange loud noise that would not stop playing, after that he opened a fabfilter page with the following message:
"Your copy of FabFilter Timeless 3 appears to be pirated or infected by a computer virus." LOL :unsure::unsure:
    • UPDATE: the time bomb (noise) goes off every so often.
UPDATE 05-26: TEAM VR released "FabFilter Total Bundle 2021.5 CE-VR" including Timeless 3, hopefully better :mates:

    okay good to know.

Ahhh shit i remember, Fabfilter has included a checksum validation inside the plugin, so the plugin runs after a while a checksum test and this one is ofc negative, since Timeless was patched. thats how it finds out. hmm, guess waiting for VR or somebody else? (rougling speakin ...)

    thanks for posting here.

Mh, at least VST2 is running for 10 hours here. Let's wait and see.

the loud noise thing is completely unacceptable. if they want to play cat and mouse with pirates, fine. but creating a health hazard is foul. reading this makes me want to not buy their plugins ever to be honest.

its acceptable, a lot of audio plugin devs are doing this. And it is inbuilding since over 10 years or so, since the first version came out. We just never noticed it, bcs it was almost everytime proper patched/keygened.

Well, if you're honest, and buy them, they won't make that noise anyway, so there's nothing to worry about.

but that's the thing though, isn't it, because these things could trigger by accident and also happen to legit customers. it's on the same level as what tone2 did when he was on the more crazy side of his anti piracy campaign. that BS also happened to some of his customers.

@ArticStorm what other developers are doing this kind of protection? loud noise?

almost 24 hours here (i installed the one shared in the request section of Timeless 3). No problem whatsover, been using it in 80% of the tracks in a project. Firewall been working so far I guess. But I'm still being cautious to not full crank my monitor's volume, the two previous timebombed release so frightening. They are still using that loud burst of white noise ?

I will not be installing this one and I am not saying it will solve the problem with this crack bc FF has probably "enhanced" the protection, but if you just want to prevent anything to open your browser, just brick the default one like this:
At least you wont have to read BS like (from the above PDF):

..but the only reason we are able to spend countless hours of our time to make the plug-ins absurd copy protections you love is because people like you actually buy them from us.
    Thank you..

Are you a student and short on cash?
Nope, I am a rich bitch.. but now you made me nervous. Not good for your 'small pockets'

The vst2 seems to work ok (so far). Haven't used it as much as vst3. I had couple issues w/ vst3, but that's prolly user error? I dunno. I haven't had any more issues since then, from either? The previous (R2R) release works fine, no timebombs, seemingly. Yes, @Stevie Dude there's still white noise!
    Maybe use Pro-L 2! :D

So, the plugin? I should say in advance that I didn't RTFM, going full snake oil. But at least I learned that T3 is pretty unusable, as are a lot of their plugs.
If you use a "zoomed in" W10 display (ie 125%+) it gives you a tiny window w/ massive zoomed-in txt, making it unusable. In 100% mode, the text, dials etcs are too small to read. On every display option I have (a lot).

In general, Fapvilter (as the snake oil guy calls them =) are ok at displaying the "EQ" stuff, which is massively detailed, fine. On stuff like this, the tiny radial (!!) flipping dials are borked af. And arguably the only important part? The EQ curve garbage et al is superfluous for this, rly.

I don't know if it's even possible to change the percent of (ie) pitch-shifting? Or even increase it beyond +-8ve?
    edit: ±octave :D
    Basic functionality, missing.
It is almost impossible (for me) to see / adjust the stupid radial borkedness, when you have two "functions" on a dial. Since resizing the plugin only affects the size of the windows. You often have a tiny pixel sliver to aim at, and it's crazy to think this passed QA in this state. I still prefer that stupid ReplikaXT thing (for diffuse) that sounds better and is easier to use and looks better!

Also oversampling? Is there any? It does have distortion (lofi) so, that's prolly borked af? I dunno I'm waiting for @No Avenger to tell me about harmonics and nyquist; that's beyond my pay grade! =D

I find this annoying AF. A short fade out, half a second silence and fading back in would be absolutely sufficient and way better.

    +/- 12 semitones.

And yes, Drive and Lo-Fi can add aliasing (especially @ 44,1 & 48kHz SR) because, sadly, there's no oversampling option.

If everyone in the world created something as their main profession and was happy for everyone to steal it, somehow I think they may have issues paying their bills. So, what is acceptable piracy prevention so a person can create a deterrent from their work being stolen, or does everyone here truly believe they have no right to try and protect their own work? The phrase "They're corporate so they do not need the money" is not a satisfactory answer to this question. It's simply what is acceptable no matter the status quo. Any person who creates anything has every right to do the best they can to protect their creation.

Well, I think that games and instruments and effects all need to be played with to know if they're worth buying. It's fine (and rare) that Fabfilter provide demos, but what invariably happens with 30 day demos is you install, forget and they expire. Every piece of software I've ever bought, I've tried beforehand. It takes a lot longer than 30 days to know if you need (ie) Cubase. I'm not sure T3 is even worth persisting with? But at least I can go back to it whenever.

Piracy is the only reliable, trustworthy advert as far as I'm concerned.

If you'd read some of my post (don't, it's boring..;) I usually preach how ppl should not use anything they don't have license for for their professional endeavor. But come on.. there is a limit. IMO in some countries something like this could even end up in court (imagine a parent claiming his kid bought this on ebay, thinking it was legit..)

Aaand just look at poor @Stevie Dude rolling on the floor w bleeding ears. We all know he was scammed.. :grooves:
