For me, in no particular order.

    Fender
    Gibson
    Roland

They always inspire me, and they are also beautiful objects to look at.

Not really, I get all the basic sounds I need with my choice of equipment (P-bass, single-coil & humbucker guitars, classic Juno synth with midi), and these are the building blocks I use for everything I do. All the rest is reamping, FX, VSTi, and general titivating. Oh yeah, I added an acoustic guitar, but that's another story.

BTW, you may have noticed that all the things I value are input devices :)

What PRS model were you looking at? PRS make very good guitars, as do other brands. It's best to try as many as you can, and see if you can find the one that speaks to you. I was specifically looking for a Telecaster, Les Paul, & a P-Bass, which is a tried and true combination, but it still took me a while to find the right ones (all USA models).

I neglected my microphone collection until recently. I had a fairly decent Far-East valve condenser mic (Gemini II) and an SM58, but I recently added a SM7B for recording vocals in a bad space & SM81 for the acoustic, so Shure would be No.4 on my list

The three manufacturers in my experience make things that work really well...

    Microtech Gefell microphones
Arturia (hardware only, I don't cotton to their gigabyte ballast gui software monstrosities)
    RME

I'll nix the next bit @Zenarcist if you wish...

I NEVER wear brand swag and wouldn't if they paid me (no judgement on those that do). The derivation of the idea of branding (verb) involves claiming an animal as one's property by burning into the skin a symbol (what today is known as a logo) with a red hot piece of metal and is extrapolated to an even more disgusting term, the word consumer which serves to aid in dehumanizing an individual and categorize us into one giant herd. It's really Matrix-like when you boil it down...war is peace and hate is love kinda shit. I don't believe this is overthinking and even as a kid never understood why someone would be downright proud to have a little Lacoste alligator on display as free advertising and showing the world their loyalty to some random money making entity.

I do wear the occasional Jerry Garcia t-shirt though, LOL.

I've never worn brand swag, except as a kid when I used to wear t-shirts with my favourite bands on them. I soon stopped though, once I realised I was in danger of being beaten up by the older boys for my terrible taste in music :)

these 3 are purely based on customer service experience. Great respond, fast, helpful etc etc. As someone already mentioned, brand loyalty is a terrible affliction to have and I agree.
