hey legit question here i am clueless to this. i have seen alot and i mean alot of people on this and sister site say they run win 7 and asking about compatibility. my question is why do people still run windows 7? is it outta choice or is is more stable is it money wise??? just curious. look forward to the response thanks brothers

The simplest answer I can give you is because I don't believe in messing about with something that just works exactly how I want it to. I have 6 machines in total and have win 10 on a couple of them, but my main one, it will remain win 7

 

thats whats i figured, after seeing it so many times in forums and site i can see the downside of the version 7 unless im missing something would be a pain in the ass of running a older operation system w new software. is that a common problem w 7 or is it almost the opposite bc of how much more control w more ease.. thanks for verifying it ether way my brother

 

as you can assume my music hobbys....would it be beneficial as far as if one made the change from 10/11 i have a spare computer hp laptop that struggles to say the least that could benefit from it now i think of it, its only a few years old but it runs like windows 98 loading a free AOL disk. haha if you lived in US you def know what i mean!

 

It's more than that though. With every new operating system Microsoft releases, there is less and less control over your own computer. If I want to update it, I should be allowed to control what or indeed if anything I choose to update. With 7 I still can. With 10 I have to jump through hoops to prevent it.

The only reason I have 10 on 2 machines is really so I can learn about networking with them (They are extremely old computers dual core, and one is even a pentium 4..) On 7 I can do it in seconds using 'Homegroup' On 10 it's a nightmare setting up for me as they removed the Homegroup feature and replaced it with some half arsed alternative I cant seem to fathom!

The other thing is. I haven't come across a single plugin I would say I was clambering for that isn't available on 7.

You can't be naive and believe all these tech companies that they want good for you, because they only care about their own buisenss, if something works and is good, why to buy new things.

 

I just came back into music production for the first time in 15+ years, I HATE the new windows. I have Windows 10 Pro but I wish I had XP or 7 lol. It's riduculous the directories things install to. It was so easy to direct installations back then and like you said way more control.

 

I agree I'm and oldschool user windows XP was my last operating system. I got a new laptop a month ago to get back into music production while I'm out of work injured from an accident at the moment. It's gotten so It's riduculous what Windows has become now.

You never had software instal to folders like Users/Pc/Documents or ProgramData/blah blah
I have to search to find where software installed, common files etc.

Also I don't think you'd have to bridge plugins either, or select hats 64bit next to x86

Firstly, I wish you well. Being out injured is never nice.

What you COULD do if you want to carry on using XP for your music production is,look into dual booting. That way you could for example at boot up be given the option to boot to Win 10 OR XP. That being the case, I would have XP with no internet connection whatsoever and Win10 as you are now.

That would give you two totally separate entities. You wouldn't have to worry about firewalls etc on the XP side.

 

Thanks yea it sucks, I was working on a machine and when I was stepping off I slippe on hydraluic oil tearing a ligament in my right wrist. Which royally sucks because thats my dominant hand and now I can't lift over a pound without being in pain.

That sounds like an idea, I may have to look into that one.

I made an new post about returning to music and asking for advice so I can get up to speed with everything thats changed. Windows definitely sucks and I'm sure most other software companies do too. Everything is a cloud suite subscription now it seems and now AI too? Insane..
