Good advice, of course. Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to live near a large music/audio store where they can demo gear.

@Medad , the crew here seems to like the Yamahas. When I was monitor shopping I was mainly going to Gearslutz for my info and I got the JBLs, which I'm happy with. My guess is it's tough to go wrong with either one. The JBLs get a lot of praise for their detail and clarity, the Yamahas for their bass. I guess it's up to what's more important to you.

Did Presonus ever made a monitor before? they do have some extended room control but so do the yamaha's.. Both can go wrong if your room is to small and untreated.. I would go for a higher budget, night and day difference.

The JBLs have a companion sub that has a switch to boost the bass as if you are hearing it in a club. If you are making music for the dancefloor you should check out JBL. I have the 305's and they actually sound kinda like the old Yamaha NS10's (mid boost) that are in almost every pro studio on earth. I assume the 308's would sound even better.

For the person who asked. I've had the BX5 and the HS50M and the difference is day and night. I'd go or Yamaha. Not exactly the same but it might help you out. Now I've got Genelcec 8020 and I can't be happier. I can't go for 8" speakers for my room size. I also had the HS10 sub and I barely used it because it skewed by bass perception due to my small room.
