I loaded (an older version of) Serum in a running project, init preset, changed the filter, sounds like in the vid. There must be something broken with your version/installation. 44.1kHz, BPM doesn't matter.

 

I can change BPM to 90, but it sounds still the same.
I tried to make new project, but with the same result. I uninstalled my version and installed demo version, but still different sound.

This would lead you to believe the problem is not actually Serum. Did you try other synth in it's place? Wav files all play correctly in Cubase? Also, you tried the demo, but how well did you clean up after removing the original version you had? Did you remove it with Revo Uninstaller?

You had Serum working correctly before this? It carried over your problem to the new demo install. Maybe the first one timebombed and left objects for future install attempts to find. Did you have it firewalled? I would edit hosts file to block xfer domain, at least while testing something like this. I would also try with internet and lan connections disabled. And I would try it in a different DAW after that. (but with the same plugin format i.e. VST3)

 

Try to change audio driver in Cubase.

 

I have only one to choose from - Focusrite USB ASIO

 

Install ASIO4ALL & restart PC.

After restart open DAW. You should have now different option under Audio Driver than just Focusrite.

 

As I said before, I'm noob. I did some work in Cubase like 15 years ago and before it in Acid and Music Maker and eJay(20 years ago).
I really liked making music, so I decided to start again. I have newest Cubase, but I just started. So I used only samples and Serum and watching lot of tutorials.
Long story short - I just installed Vital and comparing sound to some YT video and it looks like it sounds the same or at least very similar. So I don't know if problem is with Serum or some settings in Cubase, or somewhere else.

Just my 2c.. before making a total mess out of your comp, synths, drivers.. I think it would be wise to do a null test. I only listened to your "init" mp3 and it sounds ok-ish. It isn't exactly like my Serum's init but that may be to mp3 conversion. "Describing" a saw wave imo also doesn't help much. It will depend on someones listening environment.

I suggest you:
- open an instance of Serum
- go to Menu - Init preset
- turn the RAND knob on OSC A to 0% (so the start position on a wave is always the same)
- draw a longer (one bar) MIDI note
- export/render WAV

I think then we can check whether there is really something wrong with your Serum.

I have only Cubase, so I don't know. I'm just downloading Ableton Live trial, so I'll try it there.

it's because of the forwarder. It has to be copied into the browser manually. Then YTD has to be deleted from the URL. Your file is still there.

 

You have right. I should check this in incognito mode before. Removing extension or filename didn't work.
Those links just can't be in hyperlink! They must be copied and pasted into browser bar manually!

So now it should work!

i have never had any problem using Mega, that i know of anyway. it's probably the best free hosting I have ever used. I'm not using it for anything but stuff like this; nothing "mission critical". there are other good ones, but it seems people have this happen with mediafire.

 

Yeah. Mega isn't bad but you need to register first to be able to upload and I am too lazy for it
