I have Cubase and I've recently installed Xfer Serum.
But it sounds differently, than it should.
I set all like in this tutorial, which is only enabling filter and set MG Low 24.

I wasn't able to capture sound from Cubase in OBS, so it just sound (mp3) with no active turning frequency knob. I set it to 1000Hz. But I believe you will hear the difference.

If you are using only one oscillator (A) is it activated in the filter section ?

In the global tab is oversampling set to x1 (draft) if so put it in x 2

are FX off ?

If none of these options works provide a picture of your serum (front panel and global tab)

 

I think since you already have a mega, you should save your serum preset and upload it. Or have someone bounce a wav file of a specific preset, and then you can compare it.

I wouldn't recommend comparing to a YT video, because it could have some kinds of effects on it already just to meet YT audio standards.

You don't see many "sounds wrong" comments.

 

I didn't make anything else just the same what the guy on video does from 0:30 and it should sound like 0:52 (not melody but instrument), but it is quite different.
I checked, if it looks like his setting, but I didn't find the difference.

I don't think the difference would be so huge because of YT.
He is presenting just Serum, so the sound should be the same without any other fxs.

 

He has the filter resonance set to about 30% between the original sound and the final one after adding 16 voices unison, and then back to 0 without speaking about it but I don't think that's the answer to your problem.

Are you using an audio interface with monitoring speakers or headphones ?

What is the samplerate from your session ?

 

other than the small change of the filter type to MG24, this is basically just INIT/Default?

Your version is from 2021, so I can guess this is not a legit installation. I would update to the brand new r2r version from Xmas before diving into this problem. Updating won't matter, but I would anyway.

 

Yeah, but those 16 voices and 30% was added after first preview which was very different from mine with same settings.
I have Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen and Yamaha HS5 with Presonus Eris Sub 8.
In Project Setup, there is 192kHz/24bit. I don't know if it shouldn't be 44,1kHz. But I just created 44,1kHz project but it sounded the same.

 

No, it's not legit yet. I wanted to try it first. Where is newer version? I wasn't able to find anything newer.

And what sound you are trying to recreate from the video? first one ?

Your sound "filter+1000Hz .mp3" is 1 voice saw wave with MG24 filter on 1000hz, in video he use 16 voices.

 

Your version just sound like filter is fully open.
Maybe you have automation in the background and it stuck on fully open?
Close Cubase and open again. Start again new project and do it from scratch.

 

I mean the preset is so simple that you couldn't make any mistake.

I thought settings at first but everything seems to be normal.

You use an audio interface and while YH58 lack in low frequencies you do have a PE 8 sub so np here

Serum 1.368 has been DMCA'd from sister site but is available on Russian site.

Right now i'm thinking your Serum might be timebombed with shitty sounding engine but that's pure speculation.

Update to newer version and report any changes

Is your Cubase session And your Focusrite control SYNCED to 44,1kHZ ? (you are ok with 44 no need for 192)

If you are not tracking vocals, make your Cubase buffer size the BIGGEST possible so Serum doesn't kill your CPU when you do sound design.

I'm trying to recreate the first one. In video is time stamp in 0:51, but doesn't work.
I know that something is wrong, because of this video, where are factory presets and they sound different. Mine are like at least 2x maybe 4x faster. So this is probably something with sampling rate. But as i wrote before, I tried to change sample rate already.

 

I changed settings in my Scarlett 2i2 from 192kHz to 44,1kHz, but the result is same. Still pitched.
Of course he's not like Deadmau5, only that first sound reminded me him a little

 

What is your project BPM in Cubase? Default in most DAW's is 120 BPM.

 

170BPM, but it doesn't affect it.

 

Project BPM affects Serum Presets. That's why factory presets in your Serum sounds faster than on youtube.

 

BPM should only affect parameters that are sync'd to host. I would try a new project in cubase with a new instance, and then one with another synth i know well to figure out if the problem is Serum or Cubase. Rule one out.

I would update first before chasing my tail with it. I think the reason for an r2r version, was because many users had very strange things happening with others. Sometimes a fresh install works magic, and probably more with a witches' version. Everything in Serum will be back to default state.
