Wrong beliefs in music!!!

    Let's start with this one:
I'm not into Vocal-based music. I like vocals just for guiding and glorifying tracks and making them more aimful. Other than that I don't like vocals as an instrument. I listen to impressionable ones and adoring them like this one (not just because of the voice itself but the special emotional feeling the whole music arises that perhaps related to the production and songwriting phases):

but on the whole, vocals are not my preferences for enjoying and trying to enter that road. Maybe all of my strange and crazy statements return to that.

    What are your wrong beliefs?

As a drummer, I believe everyone else in the band slows down towards the end of the song. I don't know why. It's uncanny how they all manage do it at the same time.

It's probably a good sign, it's probably happening because they are listening to each other more closely. But you, as the drummer, have the job of KEEPING the beat. If your music is beat-based, they follow YOU.

Wrong belief: If you can't play the guitar, try the bass. It's easier.

Yeah. Dylan's music would be better without words. Lennon's Imagine has no meaning with thoses ridiculous lyrics. The Beach Boys God Only Knows.... a dance floor flop. Hey Jude might have worked with a TB-303 and no lyrics.

It's more than just about lyrics. It's the melody, rhythm, context, emotional impact, and how the voc is mixed with the song. There are hundreds of songs where you can't understand 85% the lyrics and the impact is huge.

Now you're in delving into the mainstream of this style of music during this time period. There was a lot of killer shit happening in the studio on both sides of the pond a bit underground. More outboard was being used of course, and the sound stage was hi-fi and convincing with clean harmonic gooey grit.

Richard Patrick is a genius in the studio. Listen to the band "PRICK" when he was working with Trent Reznor too. My favorite album from Filter was "title of record". The first 6 tracks have incredible verse AND chorus hooks :

I don't see how a belief in this context can be wrong or right. :dunno:

I unironically agree. If Lennon really thought it would be amazing to have no possessions, he could have given all his millions to the poor.

  20. While sitting on a green bench just inside of Central Park across from the Dakota, where Lennon and his clan lived, had the very same thought and then realized that it is hard to be a human with the dichotomy of emotions, thoughts and what we decide or not to act upon, and what the implications of uttering a single word such as "Imagine" and the impact of its possibilities on the psyche of millions and how that impact impacts the individual uttering it. That was before he was shot and I was a younger man still.
