Maybe it is just all the orange, but to me Avenger looks like it belongs in FL. as far as "worst" ? no way. If you think it is the worst, you obviously need to download some more plugins.

 

To me @No Avenger looks like he belongs to AudioSex.

 

i hated it at first , but its for some reason one of my go to sampler/drum machines next to dr.fusion , and fl fpc .
putting it in the same category as twisted tools really helped also

For me there is nothing more boring and uninspiring than a UI with flat colors, simple knobs and buttons that just look like circles and rectangles, that lack any shading, plasticity, or depth. I don't have an example pic right now because I avoid plugins that look like that like the plague. All the Klevgrand stuff for example. I fucking hate it. I can not stand looking at it. It used to be all the rage until recently but it seems like developers are now starting to move away from that kind of UI design again, thank god.

What I personally love is UIs that try to mimic hardware units that could exist in 3D space.

 

As a personal preference, this is a valid opinion, but has nothing to do with good (or bad) GUI design.

I took a quick look at Klevgrand's lineup to understand what it's all about and tbh I'm a bit confused by your statement.
The majority of their products are anything but flat. Almost all of them make use of shaders. So... ????

 

This is also a bit of a fashion cycle issue.

At the time of Windows XP, all controls were beautifully designed in 3D and very colorful.
All devs tried to follow this design language...
After a while you got sick of it and then M$ went in the direction of flat design wich culminated in Windows 8 with their metro design language.
Then everyone imitated that again until you were sick of it. And now it's getting a bit more 3d again...

I never understood why so many people adopted the flat design philosophy. It's not just uninspiring, it also makes plugins more confusing to look at because there's less distinction between the background and the control elements.

Well, it can be interpreted in multiple ways. You are talking about layout, and I was talking about the visuals. Both are important but I think if a plugin just isn't pleasing to the eye, not even a good layout can save it.

I was actually responding directly to your comment about "flat colors" and shaders. Klevgrand plugins use a lot of shaders. Your statement is not correct in that respect. I wanted to know what you meant by "flat" because you didn't define it. It's always good to define terms with multiple meanings so that everyone knows what you mean.
I didn't mention layout at all. But since you mentioned it, when we talk about UI/UX design, we are actually talking about layout, color palette, saturation, contrast, fonts, shapes, skeuomorphism, shading, perspective, scale, feedback, responsiveness, readability, accessibility, etc. There is no parameter for "visual pleasantness". What is pleasing depends on personal preference and is purely subjective. Some GUIs that are hailed by many as beautiful and visually pleasing, even though they are static images, make me and many others dizzy. Literally! In this case, no matter how "beautiful" or art award-winning the UI may be, it is not well designed because basic design parameters have been ignored. A UI is first and foremost just that, a user interface.
