Hey there everybody I'm just a noob coming to musical production so this may seem a troll question but it isn't: I was wondering why most of people got 2 monitors (I'm not talking about sound monitors but computer monitors). Isn't 1 enough?

    http://mainroom.pro/uploads/posts/2014-09/1410185476_dson-home-studio-01.jpg

and if you take a look at mainroom.pro you can see a lot of pics like this one... I really don't get why I should buy 50 monitors lol.

    Best regards,
    Musicalista

That is an easy one to answer. I also have a three screen setup. I use the one on the right for my Session view, the middle for any Vst\i and the one on the left for the mixer. Most DAWs have the ability to float\dock certain section and having a multi screen set up makes it much more convenient

    @ Musicalista,

    =

    *yes*

Moreover, if you plan to use 'Crysonic' Plug-Ins (or similar ones, according to their sizes), you'll quickly notice why some Users are using Multi-Monitors !!!

Well, *most* do have multiple monitors setup, but not all. Like me. *yes* I like to leave more space for sound monitors, keeping them in equilateral triangle setup, and one big monitor is enough for me, especially for mastering. Multiple monitors would just be in the way for me. In the way of sound, actually. Even when it comes to mixing I don't think having one big monitor instead is a problem. I've always worked like that. But I do understand those who use two or more, and it's also a matter of "getting accustomed to". Once you get accustomed to using more monitors you'll never look back. That's why I'm not even trying to. One big monitor really is enough for me. *yes*

I use two old 4/3 19" screens, instead of 1 bigger.
So i can put them between my audio monitors, and still get two screens
But you can put them vertically, too.

Dual monitors can help in a lot of situations.
Following a doc/tuto on one side, and using it another side.
FL Studio (because there are too much windows)
Studio One : Mixer/Clip on one side, arrangement and the rest on the other
Ableton new dual view (asked for years) : arrangement on one side, clip view another

Photo : Tools/Soft on one side, Full screen view on other
    And more...

Simple answer: more screen real estate. Useful to have your mixer on one and your MIDI or arrangement on another for example and it's nice to not have to flit back and forth between them like those on single monitor setups are forced to do.

Nobody is going to kill you here for asking a question. We're a friendly community and treat each other with patience and respect. The only stupid question is the one not asked. :mates:

LOL this was nice to read. Well personally not every forum I joined was friendly like this one (or at least how you are saying), reason why I stated that this wasn't a troll question at all

It's just about personal workflow. SOme people do great work on 13" laptop screen. Personally i prefer my 3 24" monitor setup. I use mainly Ableton and Cubase and to have mixer on left monitor, arrangement view on right monitor, and the VSTs and plugs i'm using in the middle monitor.

A DAW is just a tool.
Some guys know how to do a certan thing in 1 Daw and might use that for better or faster results :)

i like to switch up DAWs aswell. doing the same thing but a differenct aproatch/starting point.
cubase/Live/reason is my weapons of choise. rarely logic. dunno why lol
