With all thats happening with tiktok should someone still be trying to market their music through there nowdays or it will eventually be stopped by USA/UK etc, not sure if they actually did stop it

youtube seems to be dead and not trying to promote new songs and so seems to be happening with soundcloud....i guess they're waiting for you to pay to promote

is there any music platform that actually pushes a song to be heard by at least a few people without payment?

btw i am seeing some national popular artists "sponsored" on youtube, and its really such a turnoff (well maybe not for most people).....but if they need to pay to be heard....what about ppl with no exposure at all

For what i know, Tiktok is absolute garbage in any metrics.
Personally very much against anything pushing a meta for creating shorter and shorter tracks in order to have visibilitie for pennies. It's also the reason why i deleted my spotify account, after they continued pushing 1 or 2.30min max tracks in 18 out of 20 tracks in the discoveries of the week playlists. I understand we need to pay bills, eat etc, but i wouldn't sell my wife or lover's ass for a couscous. I'd learn to grow vegetables, find workarounds.

Don't be fooled, they're all waiting for you to pay for exposure. This "free" model is already there for some times now. May have worked in the beginning for some, but the more time passes, the better tuned the gears are. If you really want exposure, first let your art speak here. This forum is already fulled with great people, great knowlegdable ears, and also some lurking in the shadow, ready to give opportunities for those who show merit.

But on another note, i completely agree, may it be youtube, spotify or other, i realise these algorithms are mostly working against any thirst for new discoveries. It is absolutely aweful, showing you either stuff you know about already, tracks from artists you already know, or just insipid stuff ok enough for the everyday unminding mass (not that i have anything against them, but at least for any genre i like, going mainstream equals the death of it).

Capitilize on you and on what you have already in here first. Not that I have experience in it to really confirm it, but i'd say try to find some good connections. Real power lies in personnal relations rathers than impersonal. It can take more time and dedication compared to the later, but it's much more real and probably fulfilling.

    Bandcamp, I guess?

I don't seem to have you guys' experience with YT and new music, but then I don't listen to a lot of mainstream music, so I get some fresh and new releases in my feed by people I have never heard of with a handful of viewers. I also obsessively curate most of the BS out of my YT feed so that probably factors in as well.

I think that there will be another platform to fill in the gap, so I wouldn't feel pressed by the fact that tiktok may be leaving. Let's not forget tiktok blew up because of the pandemic, and although I don't doubt it would have eventually reached its current popularity, it started from nothing, just like the next one that takes its place.

I second the idea that fledgling artists need to focus on promoting themselves, instead of adding their stuff onto the heap with no additional effort and hoping for the best. Nothing about that sounds appealing to me, if I were genuinely seeking an audience for my art.

it really depends on who is your audience.
Who are your listeners? are they young, are they old?
