AMD RX 6800 or 6800XT or 6900XT (assuming you don't want something worse than 1080Ti, performance-wise),
    pity new 7900XT isn't (yet) compatible :/

Unfortunately, these are more expensive than his whole X79 system is worth today. Also while using Logic or Cubase, you don't use the performance of a gaming card like the 1080 Ti.

Cheapest cards still compatible with Ventura are RX 4x0, RX 5x0 series.

In the starting post he mentions "As this would be a secondary machine for specific, faulty low use case, I would ideally want the cheapest route possible (though I appreciate "cheap" and "Apple" don't always go together, hence why I'm looking at older used options)."

So adding a cheap used card is the solution that makes most sense. Also because Monterey is the last system supporting his CPU natively.

Still compatible up to Monterey are also HD7xx0, HD 8xx0, R7, R9 series. You should find one of these for under 30 Euros.

    oh I see,
then I'd still pick something like RX 6600 or 6600 XT as it can theoretically "survive" Apple's planned obsolence few more years,
buying much older cards makes sense only if the deal is really good, considering power draw, heat noise etc... as well

ps: here's the hackintosh AMD card list https://dortania.github.io/GPU-Buyers-Guide/modern-gpus/amd-gpu.html#native-amd-gpus

That's what i posted 3 posts ago.

Yes, it's hard to predict what Apple is going to come up with, and for sure they will abandon everything Intel/AMD soon, so trying to get "future proof" and buying expensive hardware for new builds is not very clever.

But considering latest Logic Pro (which is the only reason for me to use macOS), it is still useful to build a self serviceable, silent, non throttling system with lots of expandable RAM and decent CPU power for less than the price of a restricted 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD M1 Mac. Especially for audio work with large libraries, pure CPU power isn't everything.
