I have...But only under heavy cpu loads such as Ableton live with 12 FL studios rewired inside and tried to dj with it. It crashed. Other than huge loads its fine, I'm personally gunna wait until they update a few things on Win 8

I am currently on Windows 8 Enterprise as I type this. Its not too bad but it still glitches and some software doesnt work correctly with it. Metro is NOTHING to write home about either.

Apart from compatibility with software/plugs and stability, I also wonder if in an "ad-hoc" scenario, with Windows optimized, it's faster/smoother with audio recording than its predecessors.
I mean with disk read/write performance, asio latency, usb to midi, and so on..

I`m also in the "wait for a few updates" crew.

Give Microsoft a chance to iron out the issues.

I like the Sound On Sound forums for seeing how things are progressing.

Nice to also have an open topic running here, keep us informed please with your findings. :mates:

    1. best way to get your installation quick done instead of waiting hours until the windows upadated performed all updates. remembering installing Windows 7 starter for a friend from April 2010 and then update via windowsupdate. almost 1GB updates and 70+ updates - downloading was going fast, but the installing took 3 hours.

    2. you can provide a link? thank you!

Yes, faster than 7 on many ways, very efficient concerning memory management.
    It's like a better 7.

And a VERY big plus : it would run all those USB 2 soundcards on USB 3 chip/plug without problem (like all those NI USB cards which were all having problems with USB 3 on win 7)

For audio-related PC it's a big difference (and in a few month, USB 3 will be a standard on every PC).

I had issue trying to installa some built-in windows features like IIS and .NET 4.5 support and for offical Windows 8 Updates. I read some forum and the same issues are reported. Maybe it's still too soon.. but the general feeling (reading on the net) is that it's improved on some features like usb management and such.

I'm very happy with Windows 7 Ultimate 64.

I believe we mustn't fix something that's not broken.

    I'll wait for 9, lol.

    My 2 cents worth.

Until they don't change the idiotic fact that every user has to start with a GUI made for Touch, Win 8 has no chance to get on my computer.

I measure progress by being faster and more optimised. W8 features sound like MS made a slight move towards that, but I don't think it still outruns XP. The first next MS OS that outruns XP regarding speed and optimisation, especially for audio, will replace my trusty XP SP3 on my main PC. I think that's pretty logical, ey? Why upgrading with something that gives you lesser performance? Why even bother?

Just look at some audio/daw benchmarks around the web. W8 outruns W7 by a small margin [can run more plugins with lower latency], but XP is still the king by about 30 or even more percent. I remember some benchmark that showed that W8 could run about 120 plugins, W7 about 110 plugins, whilst XP could run 160 instances of the same plugin at low latency like 64 or 128 samples. That test pretty much says it all...

bad thing about XP is that it's not 64bit so you are restricted to 3gb ram. XP 64bit (wich I have installed on my e-drum dedicated pc) is a bit unstable, most because of drivers compatibility.
