    Hello all,

I apologize if I'm re-posting, I'm new to this and found this site because I was searching for answers. I just bought a new comp with Windows 8.1 and neither of my MIDI controllers work. They're kinda old, Keystation 49e and Axiom 25, but when I went to Guitar Center to replace them (because they didn't work with 8.1) the rep laughed when I said I wanted something that worked with 8.1. I've been doing searches and checking boards, and I can't find any keyboards/controllers that are guaranteed to work with 8.1. I would greatly appreciate some advice. Has anyone found a reasonably priced device ($100 to $400) that works well with Windows 8.1?

hi are you using a USB-Cable or a USB-MIDI-Cable to set them up ?
you can get one of these for under 20 bucks,

it sounds more like a driver error on windows 8 or lack of them,
so i would go about looking for drivers for midi as well befor i spent a penny.

Your Keystation and Axiom are "class compliant", i.e. they don't need dedicated drivers to work as they are supported by windows out of the box.
The same applies all other usb-controller-keyboards produced by major brands (at least that I know of).
Obviously, the sales rep seems knows squat about midi controllers (who can blame him as he works at Guitar Center, lol).

No worries, I'm confident your issues can be resolved. Read here:

i can tell you for a fact that an axiom 25 works just fine with windows 8.1 because i have one. the guy from guitar center just wants to sell you a new keyboard. all you need to do is plug your usb cable from the back of the axiom 25 to any usb 2.0 port on your computer and let windows install the driver automatically. i've never had any issues at all.

its not a Problem with Windows 8.1

i have serveral Midi Devices hooked up via Usb and never run into any Problems...

Most Dev. provide even Drivers for Windows 8 and if they dont have any Windows 8 support anymore try the Windows 7 drivers they also work !!

    cheers
