USB 3.0 is a really pain in the ass! I've also been having problem with addon PCIe cards. I've tried a NEC chipset and VIA chipset card, neither are a perfect fit.
I'll get a whole host of issues ranging from random disconnects, transfer errors, USB2.0 only transfer, freezes, BSODs, etc....

But I haven't given up quite yet. I'm now going to be trying another chipset which has more recently gained a fairly good reputation, Fresco FL1100.
If I remember, I'll post here the results. I should have it sometime next week. (if interested and I forgot, don't hesitate to remind me! ;)

I found some other interesting releases. Search for this: "Windows 7 Sp1 AIO (x86x64) 13in1 en-us ESD/WIM (USB3.0) Sept2018-=TEAM OS=-" if you want to install a Professional version, and "Windows 7 64-bit Super Lite (only 1000mb)" for the lite version. There is info about what has been ripped out from this Super Lite version on the 2nd page of the thread.

It looks like the lite version I had been using, but updated. That version was really good, but I couldn't install some stupid MS SHA-2 update on it to make it work with the latest TC SK48 driver. I'm going to test this Super Lite version when I find the time. It doesn't say if it has USB3 drivers integrated, but it could be really good. The guy who makes these lite versions really knows his shit.

edit: newer motherboards from Gigabyte and Asus I installed have an option in BIOS to emulate USB2 on USB3 ports so you can install W7 without any problems if you turn that option on. I'm sorry I cannot remember what it's called. Later on you install USB3 drivers, restart the system, turn this option back to off in BIOS, and everything works fine.

Yeah I know. My copy of win 7 just didnt seem to be able to identify my usb3 ports tho, so maybe it was acting as if they were usb1. Idk. I just know win 10 + reinstalling usb drivers off mobo disc finally made it work. After several months of trying different ideas from ableton support

just boot Win 7 install from DVD using sata optical drive, it's the only 100% compatible way right now,
AHCI/XHCI way of usb implementation of all current mobos is not supported by vanilla Win 7 installer

Dude, what you didn't do in W7 is download the USB3 drivers from the mobo manufacturer's website and install them. You can't expect Windows to take care of the drivers for your motherboard. Every time you're installing a new system, first thing to do is to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download all the drivers for your OS. The drivers on the CD/DVD that comes with the mobo are usually older. Then install these latest drivers first thing after the OS has booted, in this order:

First: chipset drivers [they sometimes take care of all SATA and USB 1-3 - one should check in device manager]
    Second: VGA driver
Third: Network, SATA controller, USB3 and whatever is left.

Only then proceed to install software, redistrifuckables, shit-net 4.7.2... and all that. :)

I really did tho. I did like two or three reformats trying to get the thing to work and each time I ran the mobo disc, checked for updates from asus, etc.

The reason I brought up the disc at all was because Push 2 wasn't fully functional on win 10 either until I ran the disc. You have way more tech knowledge than I do; I'm not debating that. But I sat on an $800 piece of hardware that was only partially functional for months while I basically bickered with Ableton support about how I didn't want to switch to Windows 10. You really think in all that time I didn't try running the Asus disc (which btw downloads the latest drivers)

edit: Why am I even responding to this? I barely know wtf I'm talking about lol. But for real... I did all the stuff from the disc and the Asus website multiple times. idk why Ableton was so insistent that the solution was to change to W10 but it more or less was the solution. FWIW many of them are just basically running through a checklist and probably know less than you and half the guys on this site

Yeah, damn. I'm sorry for your trouble Cav Emp, and any company support is usually just so frustrating. I have similar experience with TC support. Just a bunch of wollies, basically, with not much tech knowledge. Corporate arse kissers.
