if a program works, it doesn't need an update.

There are so many plugins available for odd ball codex like ape, etc. Its the easiest program to make playlists in (at least for me)

Fun fact that you may or may not know @scguy83, but, Reaper is developed by Justin Frankel, which is one of the two original developers of Winamp.

I definitely used winamp a lot back in the day, but it's on to VLC for me now.. and really Spotify, for music (sadly, but I can just get everything there, so it's more convenient for me).

Still running on my systems every day.
Same version I had from Win XP on.
In that one Winamp folder with that exe in there ever since without installing. On Win 11 now. And still outputting bit perfect over digital connections.
    Even the visuals still work.

Do the internet radio channels still work? I also remember using it to watch some m3u links that were streaming super low bitrate Monty Python and Family Guy episodes.

it'll load anything that uses an "HTTPS" link, just like VLC

I use it for so many reason, amongst them, the WindowShade Mode, which is a small bar That can be placed at the top of the screen, its only 10 pixels or so high, but it has all the transport buttons, the volume control, the eleapsed time, the total time, and gadgets to close, enlarge,or hide the windowshade bar. If VLC could be reduced to such a small useful controller, I'd consider it for audio, but even at its smallest screen size, VLC is massive compared to windowshade mode.

I use the Winamp Modern Skin, which has a nice set of colour themes, that you can switch up when you change screen background colours or background images to make it brighter and easier to see, or unobtrusive, depending on your needs and moods..

and then their are the Vizualizations, stunning when projected on a wall at 120 inches diagnol..

The last official release by justin was the 5.8, after that you get the new nag for the "improved" recoded version. Which is kinda buggy from what I read on Reddit when, my winamp player suddenly started offering a new upgrade last year.

5.8 was the free pro version, so all the bells and whistles.. course I always had a keygen for that anyhow....

still has an active forum on Reddit - somewhere outhere all the plugins and skins are still available. I downloaded everything and made an archive for myself for when the internet fails..probably archive.org amongst others have it all.

yeah that was kinda my starting point for using a computer for streaming tv. it was pretty low res, but fun to find all the random streams people were making.

    Do you remember why?
I use the same version for ages, all I remember is that I had good reason to stick to exactly that version. But I don't remember why.

Don't remember exactly, but it was the last "not fishy" version that needed no patches, had no advertisements and plays all formats I need, lossless is bit perfect.

5.9.2 with classic skin (never liked anything else better). no Library, no Visualizations.
    Winamp Essentials pack
    Chipamp 1.1

    Since late 90s, nothing compares.

    Well apparently it's still going:
    https://winamp.com/player

Only the phone app is being updated

The classic desktop media player we're talking about is there but is listed as legacy and is version "5.92 Final".
    https://www.winamp.com/downloads/

Last update was April 26th 2023.

Also it plays flac files apparently? Added in version 5.3.1 back in October 24th 2006

The "Whatsnew.txt" file in the installer that lists the updates, going all the way back to version 5.0 in December 2003.

Search it for the file formats you use.

It now has all the ones I use so I might go back to using it.
It's been 20 years and I think I only changed from it to VLC for something stupid like I was needing to play .m4a files which I was being sent at the time.
