With the VST3 I noticed that once you close the GUI and reopen, the GUI becomes non-reactive / frozen. So, it works at first initialisation, but no longer after you close the GUI.

How did you get Kontakt 7 to work?
I have tried both Bobdule 7.0.11 and vkdanilov Portable 7.0.11 - no go.
I haven't found a more recent Portable, neither at sister site or several other places.

Also: there are a number of FX plugs that do work, but badly. OpenGL problems.
Example: almost everything by iZotope and Sonible.
But that's not due to Win7, it's due to a graphics card that is too old and can't handle the minimum OpenGL required.
Some of the plugs have the possibility to turn off OpenGL rendering, which is great!

 

I found this famous KTK 7.1.5,
it was on the sister site at some point, so it got cached..

Its true that the thing registers and probably works,
however it gives the strangest Direct3D error here, the antiquity of the GPU probably being the culprit..


Btw I also found I the latest BFD3 version is not compatible in W7,
while the good old 3.2.2.2 works allright

You should use GUI tweaker in the Helper directory. Try different modes one will work for you.
Kontakt 7 needs: processor with SSE4 and GFX card that supports - OpenGL 2.1+, Direct 3D 11.1+

I found the WARP mode was the best-looking (sharper). On my computer the others all looked blurry compared with Kontakt 6.

As a reminder:
Once you have a good setup, keep backing it up.
Also, you can 'backup' your hardware as well. Do it before it becomes rare / expensive.
It's the hardware that will eventually force the change, as the software will run as long as the hardware is there.

Synclavier and ᑕ⊕ֆᗰIᑢ - amazing!
I found Portable 7.1.5 on the sister site in a cache. (thanks ᑕ⊕ֆᗰIᑢ) The DL URLs were working fine.
So I installed it - and with the help of the GUI Tweaker (thanks Synclavier) I found a graphics mode that works - OpenGL works just fine, surprisingly.
Default Direct3D didn't work.

But this Kontakt does something I haven't seen before and I don't like at all - it insists on having access to the web.
(NOTE: This applies to the Standalone version, not the VST3).
It refuses to load if I stop access.
Never seen that in any earlier Kontakt version of any kind. What's with that?

EDIT: It turns out that Kontakt only wants connections internally - to 127.0.0.xxxxx addresses.
So it's not a problem.

Before you download and install it - you should go to their website and look at the system requirements:
- Windows: Windows 10 — Windows 11
- Mac: macOS Catalina (10.15) — macOS Monterey (12.5)

 

That's what it says for nearly all software out there.
For the most part it just means they don't support Win7, it doesn't mean it won't run.
And that difference is the whole point of this topic.

Earlier versions of all the stuff I mentioned did work in Win7, so my point is that these particular versions will not run - don't update.

 

The question can also be, how many users are there still using Windows 7 and how many users will upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 in the future?
Windows is always the same Windows, just updated and adapted to take advantage of all the modern achievements and inventions.

I also have a second PC with Windows 7, but only as a replacement PC and data storage. It is fully functional for me and I have a lot of old plugins on it that all work, but the PC is very slow and if you have Windows 10 is - you have all the new plugins and so many of them that you can not play them all.


Is it a question of price for you or do you love your Windows 7 and therefore do not want to switch to Windows 10/11?

 

Unfortunately I have to buy a whole new PC to run Win 10 or 11.
I've attempted Win 10 install, but my HW can't handle it.
The install crashes due to 'unkown hadware error' or similar. Blue screens over and over.
Sometimes the Win 10 install works and I get the Win 10 GUI up, but then the machine bombs after a while
My Win 7 machine (from early 2011!) still works great and it's perfectly good for the time being.
At the time it was a high-end machine, which is why it can still do a good job. Running 30% overclocked for 12 years!

Is it a full IP address it's tryin' to access?

Usually Kontakt needs to access 127.0.0.1,
otherwise the GUI won't load, or could even crash..
