Well, yes, there are weirdly enough people who absolutely love upgrading and having the latest stuff. I'm not one of those either, but there's so much stuff to keep up with, both personally and professionally. But I'm (believe it or not!) first to push back against upgrades that I consider needless (which is most of them).

Kind of the same way with synthesizers really, it takes time to learn the ins and outs of a piece of gear to really be able to push it to interesting spaces, and then there's already a new model out before figuring it out properly.

An aside and off-topic on previous, but I found this piece an interesting read, but I'll not go further into it as I'm dancing dangerously close to the fire that is politics: The Anti-Capitalist Case for Standards

Just make certain regular backup images of all storage volumes on the current system are made and kept safe and you wont have any problems. For the record, mickeysoft OS upgrades are junk. If/when you ever do need to change systems just flatten & rebuild the system with a proper pre-optimized ISO image. Even with the pre-optimized images there will be more reverse engineering needing to be applied but at least a lot of the heavy lifting will already be done for you.

If you want to maintain backward compatibility with the items that keeps win10 looking/operating like win7 among other things - leave win11+ in the dust unless you run into some hardware/software requirement that you simply can't exist without. Win11 requires even more reverse engineering to make it safe/useful for any usage model. Big laughs for those who swallow the kool-aid believing that a system is "done" because the "updates" have stopped or have been put on a pay schedule. I do not now, nor have I ever (in over 20+ years) used "win update". Never used defender or the win firewall or most any of the other "features" mickeysoft throws at you. Never once had an issue with win7 in all that time. Just proves that autonomous "updating" is a useless endeavor. It continues now with win10. No defender, no updates, no win firewall, etc.. I use my own solutions for each of those on internet connected machines + common sense. On production machines, all that shit is turned OFF as well as internet.
