I posted this elsewhere but had no bites.

Hey Guys,

Can someone please advise me on the best way to install VKDanilov's Portable 8.2.1

I had installed 8.1.0 correctly. But having trouble with this version (And probably forgotten how to do it lol)

For 8.1.0, I extracted the portable version to my D drive, and in my default vst3 folder on C drive, I did have a shortcut to the Portable folder on D.

It worked then.

Now when updating, I made a cop of the user data folder on my desktop and deleted the the kontakt folder on D and extracted the 8.2.1 version to that same spot. I merged my user data, then started Reaper.

Upon load up reaper found the new Portable version, but when loading, I got the dynamic link error.

Found another post on here talking about the same issue, and someone posted a link about switchable graphics card. Mine isn't, so that doesn't work.

Then I read something about the come back to win 7 exe. I did that but not sure if I extracted it to the right place as it didn't work.

So I have removed all files relating to 8.2.1 (except I kept the user data so I don't have to load those libraries again).

The instructions on the notepad files come up as gibberish on my pc.

I was hoping someone here can give me a quick rundown on the correct way to install this version. I'm on Win 10.

Another thing to note, is I also have one of Bobdules Kontakt 7 versions working fine. To get that to work so I could see the GUI I did that command script so I could see it.

This one:

Not sure if this has anything to do with 8.2.1 portable not working.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I tried again, and used the install.exe file that created the shortcut folder in the vst3 folder on C drive.

I rescanned the plugins on reaper.

It found Kontakt 8, but I still get that "A dynamic link library(DLL) " error

 

Is there any particular reason that you updated? The changelog didn't seem to show any bugs that would have affected me. I only update if there is a particular library that wont run on my version. That aside, the instructions used to say to put the Kontakt folder at the root of your "C" drive which is where mine still resides so I imagine that you will need link to your "D" drive. Like you, I have forgotten most of what I did, however, I always create a new folder for the new version and once installed slide the "user data" from the previous version over. I know you can do this automatically at installation but after having done it right since K5 I managed to get it wrong with 6....... and so do it manually now.
