Yeah I had the same feeling after I bought Softube Modular especially when it was cracked. After buy I played with it few weeks and then didn't use again. After getting cracked and released with all the additional things I used it more than after buy and regret that 2 years earlier I bought it. I should wait but back then I had good job and I had money. I really liked the look of it and wanted to try, there was a little promo on it and it was an impulse to buy it. I regret because it was just very basic. All the modules for it was paid and often more expensive than the whole modular. I do not recommend it. Nothing special. It is almost the same sound as vcv rack but vcv rack have tons of free modules.
Maybe someone who have extra money wanna buy my whole Softube account? It is like stealing. I will still money from you because you pay for crap

At first I felt like justifying this. I.e., I'm living in a third-world country, so being unable to pay makes me take this stuff for free (since it's available).

But now I think that paying for stuff is what makes you human. Like, a real one. One shouldn't justify his own sickness, he should treat it and try to overcome it.

 

Thank goodness I can afford to buy what I use (for now at least) but choose and prefer the versions supplied by the various groups. However (my clause), I do use a few things in which I find the protection regressive but would buy in a NY minute if they the devs would change their way of doing so.

Being completely truthful, I always believed that if anyone uses something all of the time, it is logical to buy it for the direct support, not for the application.

HOWEVER - After seeing the owner of Acustica Audio carry on like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, instead of being a grown-up, no. It is like someone holding a loaded gun, they are not going to talk about it if they want to shoot you. He should have simply gone to authorities or sought legal advice instead of the pathetic whining. Normally I'd delete something I do not use after trying it out which was all of them and what I usually do. In this case I kept them because he's being a dickhead. He may be the first software designer I have come across where I would say he deserves to be hacked over and over and over again until he grows up. if someone robbed your home would you call the police or sit there and moan on social media that you were robbed? An adult wouldn't bother with social media as the first stop.

 

IMO, AI was made for people who lack some kind of talent.. I believe everybody on the planet has some kind of talent but some never discover it.
I look att people using AI as disability or wannabes. And u can’t hate on that.

And warez isn’t something bad, they are just a tools to accomplish something. But if u make money with warez, then be a good person and give back for ur own karma. But I’m 100% sure that everyone that’s makes a lot of money also gives back in some kind of way, those who don’t are the ones not making any money anyways.

 

One more thing. It's not a stealing if the developer doesn't allow reselling software. I heard there are these king of crazy licenses

 

I think you are little wrong.
AI was not made for people who lack some kind of talent.
AI using neural network is just a next step in software technology.
There was always some kind of AI but dumber.
Progress with AI was very little and limited to what programmer writed.
Now AI based on neural network is a huge step and you see a lot of progress in short time.

And this what you mean is companies tried to make money on it and use it to offer people with lack of talent an easy solution.

AI based on neural network is just a tool like any other.
It just help.
Ask any Graphic Designer is he preffer in Photoshop cutting people from background manually or use new auto AI background cutter which is just one click and done and much more precise than them doing it half an hour manually.
I don't think they are wannabe or lack of talent.
They are just using available tools to save time and make something better.
If something can be done quicker and better by using a tool then why not to use it?

Many great points to which I would add good developers vs bad developers point. If I decide to part with some of my hard earned dosh, I would like it to go to a developer that in my mind deserves it. Like those who don't use dongles, subscriptions, intrusive protections, online authorisation, and those who's plugins consist of 1GB of pngs and 10kB of DSP per plugin, since I don't consider audio plugins a contest between graphics designers. (not that I don't consider GUI important, but far more functionally than aesthetically important) I also tend to like my projects to load as fast as possible, and use the least RAM possible.

Forgot to mention that I simply hate any kind of download applications for plugins. If every plugin company had a separate download application for their plugins what would your OS look like? Just a link to the download is all that's needed.

U have ur opinion and I have mine, and we can still be “friends”. I’m not against AI technology and people using it. I like my tea with milk and others like coffee.

First we had horse and carriage now we have horsepower. I’m also from the same world.

 

some random stream of thoughts on the topic:

and in this mindset, "lifespan" of software (or any non-physical item) is too short to even think about purchase as means of ownership,

in (capitalist) professional business mindset where "lowest cost wins" it's actually increasingly difficult to justify value of disposable tools,
advantage of legally free tools (and warez) is "independent reliable lifespan", regardless of creator's future business decisions,

in context of AI it's becoming really difficult to vindicate whole software market ecosystem,
major value of tools is in skillset of a user, not tool on its own,
companies that don't provide free option to learn and build-up their highly-skilled userbase are doomed,

do we pay for tools/gear that actually generates income? yes of course!
do we keep purchasing latest and greatest stuff? not really unless it's worth it!
do we gladly test trials/demos and provide feedback to devs, not requesting any money for our "consulting service"? yes of course!
do we persuade others into buying stuff just for sake of buying? not at all!

I feel like it's stealing, but for whatever reason, I'm not bothered by it. I couldn't afford most of this shit. I'm not gonna try to polish it with some noble excuse. A lot of people see it for what it is and don't care. At least be honest about it. Some of the bullshit justifications people come up with make me laugh.
