Is it okey to comparing it to stealing in the first place?
All digital goodies are infinite. This is not real material world where you make something and you need to waste on it physical material which cost money.
But still when you make digital goodies you waste your time, your energy, you need food and electric current that powers the computer you are working on.
So it is not pure digital form and it cost some money. Always there is something, there some resources needed from physical world.
Ok but when you once made it your digital goodie isn't a 1 physical bread. It can be multiply and used on every computer in the world without any effort.
But developers makes something opposite and make a lot of effort from preventing effort-less spreading of their software by doing serial numbers or ilok.

It is hard one when you think more deeply about it.

Is it a sin when you download warez software?
What developers loosing when I download warez version of their soft. Play with it few days and delete?
Maybe they have a sin if they not publish trial version. And all the people need to pay them money and some of them only to try and find out that they threw their money away?

I am not feeling bad when downloading warez. I even like it and have positive feelings when doing it. It is my hobby. I like collecting and if those stuff was not cracked and available free I will never buy those or go to the developer website or even know about existing of this soft or developer like this.

    What you thinking about it?
How do you feel when downloading warez?

I'd say, in my opinion, till the time you're not making money out of your music and it's just a hobby, it's comparatively okay to use warez.
But once you start making money, you really should be paying for the stuff you use.
It's kind of like, someone making money using the songs you make, without giving you any royalty or monetary compensation for it.

    Are you tried torrents?
You need to "waste" just 2 days for this, in reality couple of hours.
Make a list of things you need, search them on torrent site like rutracker.
Put a download quee in torrent client, leave computer at night and when you wake up you will have all the plugins downloaded.
After that install all of them and start making music!

I'm okay with stealing anything, so joke's on you. A week back i stole a pen, before that, a TRS connector. I may steal NoAvenger's profile picture later and hang it on my granny's bedroom wall, then i'll steal the wall, i don't give a fuck.

The truth is that, morality aside, it's all about damage to me. I know plugin makers are not loosing me as a client because i wouldn't buy their shit even if i had the money, it's like a trial period but without signing up to yet another account i'll forget the password of or downloading their bullshit installer or whatever. If i did use their product, i probably already bought it or i'm waiting for black friday or some other sale.

Even then i might still use the warez version because authentication software is just so annoying sometimes. I lost my internet connection for an entire day and all my UAD plugins just bailed out (Yes i knew this was going to happen before i bought them, still annoying), if they come out in warez form sometime you bet your clown ass i'm gonna be using that instead.

So yes, although it is technically software theft, they're not getting poorer because of me using warez. Doesn't make it right, but i'm okay with that.

Anyway, if you read all of that i just stole like 30 seconds of your life. You're welcome

i grew up in a village far away a long time ago, when people actually use to debate if all software should be free.
it was a different time. It affected my outlook on software. BSD unix is free and a lot of the internet runs on it.

i dont feel bad, because i always end up buying what i actually use. i have spent thousands over the years.Even sample packs, if i find a maker or company who makes samples that resonate with me, i will buy them. When it comes to dev's like izotope, who screw me over with a loyalty price of 400$ for a new module or two in ozone, then i enjoy using their warez, and will no longer purchase ever again.

I too am a collector and enjoy playing with all the stuff. Often times i will download plugins i even know to be garbage, just for the experience and to check them out, learn something etc.

I think warez are healthy for the industry as a whole. It can give young people, or people from countries with poor economy, people with bad situations etc the opportunity to create and learn, thus pushing the entire industry forward. Eventually, the ones who go from being amateur to pro will also buy the products that they warez'd for years.

I had similar thoghts but for more specific thing. It was more like. All the software should be free for people up to age 21.
If you legally can buy a beer and you are adult then you have job and some money and then you can pay for software.
No shitty student licenses or promo codes. It should be free for learning purposes and kids or students will be using it for learning.
If you will make money using it ok just pay to author. But kids or students doesn't have job. So from where they will get the money? They need to learn software first to make money using it. Vicious circle!

It is what it is but i use them on a "try before you buy" basis.. the things that i end up using in my projects on a regular basis get purchased eventually.

It all started the first time I did a rolling stop at a stop sign... I knew then I was bad to the bone. Downloading warez makes me feel like Danny Ocean.

It isn't completely free. There's an implicit contract in there. The big companies that build products based on software that was provided to them free of charge are expected to share the things they develop back to the open source community.

Despite being richer than King Midas himself, they almost never fulfil their end of the bargain. They take, but they don't give back.

I'm simply following their approach to contract law and business ethics. Take Disney, for example. Seizes on a load of stories that are in the public domain. Retells those stories. Lobbies government to extend the period when copyright *should* expire to some godawful time thousands of years in the future, thereby pulling the ladder up after themselves.

If you think a corporation like Disney is ever getting a penny of my hard-earned cash, you're much mistaken. I fly the Jolly Roger proudly over my computer. I'm buying NOTHING!

See also, things like the Tivo and Busybox lawsuits.

Stealing implies the subtraction of something of value from it's due owner. There's no such thing in piracy, code can be replicated indefinitely. Authorship can be stolen, code can't, at least not through means of piracy. That being said I don't believe piracy as a whole is without moral flaws, while it carries a fundamental role in regulating the market and (rewind to Acusticagate) preventing developers and companies to feel at ease fucking with their customers, I don't doubt that revenue loss can come with it (although there's no widespread scientific evidence to back that up).

Since code can be easily replicated by multiple people there's some sort of good faith policy underlying this whole market, DRM is a messy attempt of exercising this policy through brute force. Developers more than any other working class rely on our good faith to seek their commercial products through legal means, so while I do believe that piracy can have a positive effect (as it's been shown multiple times on sister site) it's in essence a wild horse and could potentially damage developers in ways that we are not aware of.

So yeah, it's a tough subject.

Given the huge economic disparities and injustices around the world due to material scarcity and hoarding of land and wealth by the elite, artificial scarcity of intellectual property doesn't rank very high on my list of things to worry about.

It's like overdue books from the public library. I was never going to buy it. I'm just checking it out, and all you are doing is worrying about when I get rid of it. If I actually needed it for anything, I would already have bought it. So here is your chance to sell me a copy of your new thing that I don't need. If it does not meet my standards, it's gone. That includes application security. I wouldn't buy a wifi router that let everyone in the neighborhood use it for free. I probably wouldn't buy a car with duct tape for door locks, either. It would have to be pretty special.

My money was never yours to steal. If you care about some noise, on one of my non-money making tracks; you have much bigger problems to worry about. I understand not every programmer can keep r2r out. If some kid with a hex editor is the undoing of your programming career, maybe creating protected software is just not for you. There is always Excel.
