25:55 to 26:25 is everything someone needs to hear. He could just have said this part in one video of 1/2 minute and it would be everything someone needs to know. The rest is as always some regular table jabbering. But this part is actually very clear and correct. The clowns who always use those pseudo expressionistic terms just do it because they have no clue what they're doing and what they're talking about.

 

It's funny some people don't believe that Andrew Scheps is an ITB guy.

 

To me it seems that the snake oil drinking guy is hitting a dead horse for views. Soundtoys have stated in the past that they are aware of this "aliasing" situation but they do their own trickery to reduce artifacts to deliver a better signal. I will post their statement below. The guys at soundtoys are not a pair of kids creating vsts, they are senior engineers from Eventide and yes they have created the mythical H3000 hardware (and software), that happens not by accident. If you have tried programming vsts, you will know aliasing is one of the first problems to tackle, and there are plenty of solutions to aliasing that even a junior C programmer could implement into the code. So they have let that behavior for a reason, make no mistake. I have listened to synths I cannot stand due to that annoying aliasing but soundtoys is not in that category. Let be our ears the final judges

We need to notice the statement carefully here. Pensado said "You know that they have really expensive converters out there right? That are really good?"

And he answered "There is no better converter than no converter."

One can discuss the ratio between "how bad is my converter" and "how good compared to plugins is my outboard gear" but this was not part of this discussion.

 

I remember one of his videos when he was demonstrating compressors.He thought he raised the attack time on a 1176 emulation fully clockwise...And this guy teach you the science of music.Without any complex!

AFAIK, only one vid. And he put it back up.

I've heard some of his mix work he's done for people, and it was great. Plus, he knows some top engineers who I also know, and he is respected.
So I believe he is already there, at least in one sense. And he will continue to learn, as we all do.

 

Okay. Although @40:04 Andrew says he'd never use the clock of a laptop, and Dave says that technically an external HD I/O is outboard.

This is a bit of a silly diversion since what we're talking about is the loveliness of physical outboard gear that typically costs ten to a hundred times more than an equivalent native or dsp plugin. You can do many things but you ain't ever gonna replace your converters with a plugin. The issue it raises is that when multi-grammy award winning mixing engineers start buying the plugs, whatever is going to happen to the hardware builders? For Manley, Sonnox and Massenburg amongst many others the answer has been to license out to Universal Audio, which is another kind of inboard/outboardy/not quite fitting the mold piece of gear, because there aren't enough Grammy winners in the world to pay for diddlysquat never mind audio gear.

In photography it was the amateurs who kept the high-end art/pro market alive. When cameras went digital, Agfa couldn't afford to keep the Record Rapid lines running. Today, there's maybe three or four chemical papers available and artists have to use what they can. In Tape-base audio, it was the no-hope demo makers who kept Quantegy shipping from the factory, not the Grammy winning acts. When the demo makers all went home studio on digital, Quantegy went the way of the world, so if you want to get back to tape it's make do with best Czech cooking blend. It's the hordes of wannabes who keep the game up and running, not the great masters.

Perhaps the problem is that people are stuck in the past. Arguing over who makes the best horse buggies in the age of the electric car. The Record Industry has gone. The CD industry is thrashing and collapsing. Downloads bring in peanuts and streaming nothing at all. The money that made building Neve 88 consoles worth doing is evaporating faster than spilt vodka.

You can be luddites and rail against the Spinning Jennies or you can make do with what you have. Because, like all artists who depend upon a mass market to sustain the tools of your art, that's all you have. Either that, or do something to sustain the mass market. Like proper royalties for streaming. Use it or lose it Grammy winners.
