  2. Adele says giving up smoking has actually made her voice weaker
The pop star kicked the habit after suffering a scary vocal cord injury

    https://consequenceofsound.net/2016...p-smoking-has-actually-made-her-voice-weaker/

    She gave up in 2011.

In my opinion her problem is that she over-belts and combines it with a vocal fry in a way that's an invitation to voice injury. She needs to pedal off the gas a bit more.

Miguel Rios, spanish rock singer, in active since the 60´s ... 75 years old and still singing properly.
We saw him live last saturday ...
He practice sport since many years ago and have a healthy life, and I think hes a very honest singer that never try to oversing.

IMO that´s the secret to have a long carrer as a singer.

Muscles are fickle friends. Every year from late spring till some time in late summer I have major issues with my voice from pollen allergies and just have to basically not sing, or sing for very short stints before I begin to become raspy and fatigue my vocal cords. It's for me downright depressing not to sing at every opportunity, like taking advantage of the natural reverb of tunnels, parking garages or just laying down a new vocal and harmony as a whim. Forget about doing shows or festivals. I've explored many avenues over the years to remedy my situation but to no avail.

We are built differently with strengths and weakness. Adele has a gift with a built in curse like many, if not all of us. Although I don't know her personally, I think that she to a great extent defines her very being by her ability to sing which would be a scarry thing if she at some point lost her capability to do so. I wish her well and hopefully she will get over this rough spot in her creative path.

Just because a Mick Jagger is able to sing professionally for 50 years has no bearing or merits comparison with another.

as far as i know ,sure age and illness has a big factor female singers mostly effected by it

i remember i was a big fan of Sandra , a perfect female voice from the 80s
after pregnancy of her twins and age factor (and i bet shes a heavy smoker )
she lost that voice , and to top that she lost her own music after the releasing newer albums like ''art of love ''and back to life ''
she was singing forcing her chords to come out ,it was really bad ,

however ,thanks to blank and johns the album ''stay in touch'' fits her calm type of singing and they brought the 80s sound back too
and they did brilliant job fixing her voice with auto-tune on that album
not to mention Hubert k was also singing on that album even his voice was auto-tuned also due to his illness

is cher is still singing with vocodor fx these days ?
    do U be LEEV ...LOL

Singing "Friday, I'm in love" or "Satisfaction" is not the same as "Hello". Adele's songs are more vocally demanding than Rolling or The Cure.

I mean it's quite obvious. They constantly keep quacking about social and political issues on social media. That's gotta take a toll on their health, especially if they end up crying and whining about it all the time. Perhaps they should just shut their mouths and then open them to make music again

I quit smoking and it helped my voice after I time, but in the short term it was like a bit of a monkey wrench tossed into the gears. Smoking tobacco sucks and then you die.
