Why do some people like and promote Reaper?

I like REAPER because it follows the same mindset as Linux.
    • It's more technologically advanced than the rest (ARA, LV2 support out of the box, FLAC was supported since its inception, whereas the popular choices were stuck with WAV and maybe MP3s)
    • It's lightweight, no flashy GUI elements, or nothing that would tax resources. A perfect tool for its job.
    • No stupid copy protections
    • Every single element is customizable
    • Its features extends beyond "just a DAW". It even supports limited video editing and batch processing.
    • Comes with a native version for Linux (out of 3 DAWs on the market, the rest is stuck).
However, as pointed out, it requires initial setup and quite some tweaking to get going. Still it's worth it in the end.
