Why aren't there 7 flats/sharps?

    thegerman asked why a keyboard is the way it is. I'm just saying in addition to the math there are practical reasons why it looks the way it does instead of a bunch of white keys. Original keyboards had less keys but as music theory progressed they didn't just keep adding new equal size white keys on the side.

    The definition of flat and sharp isn't the next black note. It is to lower or raise half step.
    So, there is e sharp (on the c# major scale) and F flat (C flat major scale).

    If everyone keeps blabing instead of reading, this will end up turning into "one of those threads".

    That's what I tried to avoid.
